We just sold our house and are in the planning stages for our new home and I am planning on purchasing an EFM 520 for our heating and DHW needs. We are in the Broadalbin (Fulton County) area and I am trying to see what the availability of coal in this area is. I do know that Agway nearby sells coal but was wondering if anyone knew of any other places to purchase coal in this area or who delivers to this area. I would prefer to buy large quantities to offset the cost.

Mulholland Enterprises in Greenwich also has coal available.

If you have the space and funds available, a tractor trailer load directly from PA is also an option.

Where are you getting the EFM?

Thanks for the info, I found Mulholland Enterprises online and will be giving them a call in the near future for sure. I am really wanting to order direct from the mine but that probably won't happen for a year or so. This winter will be a test season for me being my first time burning coal.

I am purchasing my stove from David O'Neil from Advanced Energy Systems in Warrensburg NY.

Dave O'Neil has been known in the past as someone who handles the bigger EFM's, but he usually has an assortment of nice 520's available. Congrats.

He would also be a good resource to find out if there additional coal dealers in your area.

I didn't get a chance to ask Dave yet but does anyone know if the 520 can use a propane burner vs an oil burner as a secondary source? The modular developer asked today if I know since we will be using propane for our kitchen stove/fireplace. I would rather not get oil but I am unsure on what the banks will say if I only have coal. I would only be using the oil if we went on vacation.

I'm sure you can mount a conversion burner on it, but there may be some issues with the boiler being approved for oil and not gas.

I will check with Dave when I speak to him again and see what he thinks. Going to be visiting him this coming weekend.
