Well I was up and running. I got home from work to find that I had a puff back that blew my chimney into pieces. I'm going to try to post a pic of the carnage

I was going to warn you about that. too late. Well welcome.
Turn the ashing to 120 to keep from having too much fresh coal gravity feed in at once, keep the hooper loaded at all times and never smoother the fire or kaboom everytime.

Oh no! Sad to hear that. Any chance of getting a rep from AHS to come out and see it so they can offer solutions?

I will def. reduce the ash temp to 120 degrees. should I also open the peep hole alittle? What would you guys say to still letting it run with no chimney? it is in an out building so Im not worried about CO2 poisioning. just curious if it would be safe or not

Reduce the ash, put a good chimney on and bolt in on good. Get a baro and manometer make sure its drafting well, read up on this site. In an outhouse if you can get the auger it will feed gradually reducing the chances of smoothering.chevymatt wrote:I will def. reduce the ash temp to 120 degrees. should I also open the peep hole alittle? Ive had puff backs with or without the hole open.
Ive been toying with the idea of setting the ashing hyst to 5 vs 10 to reduce the volume added at one time, im thinking more frequent smaller shakes and fills are better.

Matt,
What a bummer I just picked up my S260 last week and need to install it yet. Now with all these puffbacks and blown pipes I am starting to wonder about the safety of my choice. Heck that flue pipe is in pieces!
Our there any AHS units up and running that do not have puffbacks? And if so what kind of flue setup are they using?
