I have ordered 25 tons of pea col from Lehigh Coal and it will be here early Monday morning. I'll be tarping it in a corner of the driveway. 10 tons will go in basement and 15 left under tarp. I should be good for 2 and 1/2 years or so.

How much do I tip coal truck driver coming from Penn to my home in CT?

Well, the coal was delivered on time and I met a great driver named Skip who was friendly and tried his best to not take any cash so I forced it on him. He is not the owner but a driver for the company whom he said he enjoyed working for. He told me he was heading to New Haven CT to pick up some ground up waste that was very fine and almost resembled dirt to deliver somewhere else.

I did take a video but since it was still dark outside all you really see are the truck's lights.

Here is a picture of my pile and a close up of the coal.

I purchased the coal from Lehigh Anthracite. It looks very consistent in sizing. The price was very reasonable at $150 a ton and the trucking company charged $33 a ton. The weight slip showed 22.4 tons. For that price I should have coal for both my domestic hot water and heat in this large house for close to two and a half years or so. I have yet to burn any. I just finished (good timing) the last of my bagged Blashack. I was paying the local rate of around $300 for a ton. It is definitely a substantial savings from getting it local.

I cleaned out my coal bin attached to the boiler so from here on I'll see how the Lehigh does.

Nice looking coal. I'd be chomping at the bit to see how it burns. The coal I got from them 4 years ago was very hard and burned with a short blue flame.

Is that PEA size Coal?

Yes, it's pea coal.

That is some fine looking coal. Did you get it directly from Lehigh? Their website implies (to me at least) that it has some of the highest fixed carbon levels and lowest volatile levels of any available anthracites. I'm assuming these characteristics would make it a winner, but I would like to hear those with far more anthracite burning history and knowledge chime in.

Yes, I purchased it directly from Lehigh. They are only selling at a minimum 20 ton loads. They actually contacted a trucking company for me and I had a TT bring in 22.4 tons.

I had emptied my bin of Blashack and now I'm burning the Lehigh. I had let the fire die down low and when I put the Lehigh in it took a while for the Axeman's firebox to fill back up because the auger had went dry and it was ashing as well. In short order though it filled and fired up and I must say it seems promising. Nice fire in there and I cranked the Tstat and the house warmed up very nice. I put a new ash tub in too so I'll be watching the ash. It really is burning nicely.

So how about a November of 2012 update??
How does the Lehigh coal burn?
What color is the ash?
Is it burning all the coal, or is there partially burnt coal in the ashpan?
