Yeah I was just wondering. All the pictures and videos I've seen they look to be on max burn.

Pics and videos at full burn are more fun than pics and videos at idle.

Here's a video of my BairMatic/VanWert just sit'in there. I tried to force the stoker ON but the boiler temp was over the high limit. No flames, just idle on a warm day.

Today I had to re-plumb the supply and return for the headers that I am connecting to my radiators. The boiler main switch was OFF from about 11:00 in the morning until about 7:00 this evening. I turned the main back on and in about 20 minutes we had a full fire. I'm still amazed at that.

I was re-visiting your EFM 350 thread last week.
EFM 350

It's funny, you are on the same path as I am. Hand fired, boiler w/duct coil, then radiators!

Or is it, I am on the same path as you? I guess you started first, but I might be finished first.

You'll be finished first!!! And I must say you do a much nicer job then I!

I don't like forced hot air, especially in an old leaky barn like I have here. Hot/cold/hot/cold/hot/cold. That's why I still have the hand fed, I get a nice radiant heat source. It can't heat the entire house once winter sets in, but it makes a huge difference. I've run on just the boiler feeding the forced air system on cold winter days and the place feels chilly all the time, keep pushing the thermostat up!

Not really. You went to the trouble of taking yours apart, sourcing NEW push nipples. I just cleaned mine up and painted them. I hope they don't start leaking after I install them.

The two radiators that I temporarily installed over the Winter made such a huge difference that I decided to convert the whole house. Not only is it better heat, you can run much lower aquastat temps. This alone saves more fuel than anything else I have tried.

Moving in day for my new EFM 520

I know the pictures are sideways but I cant get em straight.
I searched and searched and searched for a 520 since I bought my house in April. Finally I came across one for $900 and jumped on it. I pulled the oil out and put this in in 3 days. If all goes well this winter with it I will rip it all down for a rebuild & paint. So far I absolutely love love love it.
I hope it's enough to heat my 2400sq ft uninsulated home. I also have a DS Circulator 1600 to help out in the dining room if I need it.
I see alot of people on here like seeing unique coal stokers so maybe ill post some pics of the 30mmbtu hurst with retro fitted fire-jet burners that I work on at a local greenhouse. We burn up to 20 ton a day in the winter. Now thats a lot of coal!!

John, as long as you have enough radiation, that 520 will easily handle your house.

Welcome.

Good deal. Did you get to see it working before you bought it?

I have some kind of wierd radiators here. They're Modines and they look like a giant fin-tube with 4 coper tubes through a big block of fins. And a big metal housing with an adjustable top to let the hot air out. Hard to explain but I will post a pic.

No Shawn I didn't get to see it run. Thats one of the reasons I got it in so fast. If it didn't work I would have enough time to find another. I was nervous!

Here a pic of the "radiator". If that's what you call it. I wish I knew something about them. Says Modine on the handle. They are originally brown but the wife painted them.
