I'm upgrading my system to a coal boiler this summer too. So far I'm leaning towards the new Leisure Line 110; or, a Keystoker KA-6. What's the typical dealer price for a new AHS-130?

The dealer price is not known, but you can call Ben at AHS and he will quote your specs. The sale is just over I think, ended the 15th. 7K would be a good round number for a baseline 130.

As is my habit I have just thought of another question: The S130 Coal Gun has returns on both sides. To maintain uniform boiler temperature would it be wise to send the return to both sides simultaneously, or can one return safely be capped off?

Using one is common and should not be a problem but the "proper" way is both returns be plumbed.

If you do connect both returns, keep clearance to remove the asher, I believe it would be like an axeman. The stove pipe side may see more heat, if you do 1 return, that may be the best side.

Read the manual, I believe it says to install a boiler drain in the unused return port.

That would be a handy way of handling the boiler drain situation.

You always want a drain, preferably at the lowest point in the system. On my Axeman, I have one return plugged and the one that feeds has a drain.

Summer installation project? whaaaa?

We have done our part here on the forum, sooooo......get moving on this project. We need periodic progress pics too.

Late spring? That is simply unacceptable.

And as habit -- Ill annoy you with my advice. Contrary to others, maybe even factory - I have found piping both returns works slightly better to keep the vessel from stratifying in the corners. NOW, be sure to make both of these branches EXACTLY the same length and configuration, so the flow in each branch is the same. Do this in a way so your not tripping on the pipe or having it in your way for service. To handle the drain aspect - use a tee as the last fitting to each return port and put a drain in at least one. Some applications simply don't allow both to be pipes due to space considerations, but "It Depends". Use pipe and fittings THE SAME SIZE as the boiler tapping. If you don not use both - Don't just jam a f-in plug in one - use at least a 3 inch nipple with a cap, or a nipple and turn down a reducing elbow as to place the drain so liquid is not trapped behind the bushing.
