Next project will be a Tjernlund draft inducer, the low temperature here was 49 this morning and it hit 88 this afternoon. Draft is 0.0, the fire's out.

I had a nice conversation with John at Tjernlund, I found out those inducers are expensive however it will solve my draft problem with the fieldstone chimney and these wild temperature swings. Time to cash in more scrap metal.

I just switch over to OIL for my DHW. Blew a bunch of rust out of the 30 gallon oil-fired.

With this hot and humid weather I keep loosing the draft to the EFM.

This should be short lived, I have a little project this weekend, plus I'm sure there is very little oil left in the tank, haven't burned a drop since I fired the EFM on December 20, 2010 at 5:05 PM.

Hey! Hey! That's cheatin! Just kidding. Now when you hook one of those up, does it run constantly, or does it come on when the boiler runs? Do you have the one that comes with the "speed changer"?

This one will be connected to run continuously. The issue is when the boiler is idle when the natural draft drops to nothing. I will wire in a switch so I can shut it down during cooler weather. :D

I don't have the speed control, however this unit has an adjustable piece on it to adjust the flow rate.

when cutting the hole in the flue pipe, cut it smaller than the cut out diagram. If not there will be holes at the open corners, you will need high temp. silicone also. Or cut the corners round and smaller, rather than square corners.

Thanks for the info Dennis.
The unit came with a template which is actually a sticker. It's infinitely easier to make an undersized opening a little larger then to try and make a oversized opening smaller!
I'm toying with the idea of removing the section of smoke pipe where the unit will be installed, it is going on a horizontal section and there's not a lot of room to work, I'm thinking it would be worth the fight with the pipe to do a better job.

When I done mine I made a photo copy of the template for future use and used scotch tape to hold the template to the pipe.I used a dremel with a metal cut off wheel, and installed the inducer connected to the boiler. You will need to slow the speed down to get a lower draft setting,it comes pre set too high.

That looks a lot simpler than my idea of a "big ass fan" to pressurize the basement.

Actually that would be less work, I could set off a smoke bomb in the cellar and find out where all the holes are that let mice in.
