I have a quite lovely Winkler (U.S. Machine Corporation) Automatic Stoker sitting in my basement. We have the original directions that came with it and a letter from the co. to the owner explaining how to replace some ordered parts in order to repair an oil leak dated November 17, 1950.

Does anyone on here have any idea of what sort of value this stoker holds? Since I am not in a stage in my life where I'm willing to deal with heating with coal, I'd like to get it out of my basement and don't want to junk it. I have no idea what to sell it for, however...nor if I should just go with Craigslist or try to find some antique machine collector/auction.

No idea on what yours may be worth or if there is even a market for a stoker of that era. However, do hold on to all that documentation you have. From what I've seen on all the antique shows documentation greatly increases the value of anything.

I'd try a few reputable antique dealers in your area first before I'd go to ebay or craigslist. You really need to get a handle on the value of what you have before you offer it for sale.

If so, this type of stoker was used to convert a hand fired coal boiler or furnace to a stoker operation.. it was usually made to burn Bituminous coal.

It looks something like the blue one pictured, but candy apple red (so racy! ) and probably not as worn looking. It is in North Eastern Kansas. I'll try to get some pics today and post 'em. I'm pretty sure it will come out of the basement but haven't done any measuring.

I have no idea what "...the rest of it..." is. So, I suppose not. What is it missing?

I can see the auger in the rear of the photo, so it would appear only the auger tube might be missing.

The blood rushes out of Stingers brain momentarily when he sees a find like this, however within 4 hours his Blood Pressure is back within normal range again. He may be watching the Weather channel to find a 'clear path' to the south/southwest.
Tornado's everywhere, and the Winkler isn't as heavy as an EFM block...he's cautious!

I like corn because the feed mill drops it right into the space shuttle - sort of like you get coal delivery - our solid fuel infrastructure collapsed 40+ years ago

I envy Bit - because its obtainable for less than 400 a ton like the Anttracks stuff would cost me.

but without the fire pot -- this old red girl appears as useless as my first girlfriend.

The wind box/fire pot assembly is probably still in the boiler or furnace that the stoker was connected to, or ended up in a landfill years ago.

Thanks to everyone who gave me info, input and even interest (however momentary ). I do like this forum - although I'm not sure I'll ever be able to convince my husband that livin' off the grid (using coal or otherwise) is feasible...nice thought, though.

If anyone else has any other cost comparisions or info, that would be great!

P.S. I'm not sure that a FIRST girlfriend is supposed to useful...or maybe there's some practice that needs to be had before getting a girlfriend that feels like being useful .
