Vermont, The forum will not let me send you a PM. Can you please repost your logo program in the classifieds section as I would like to purchase it.
Matt, Wyoming.

Just saw your note and reposted the modules and manual in the classified section under Furnaces, HVAC and Plumbing Supplies. They are $68 for the pre-programmed module and full instruction manual.
Saves coal by resetting the time whenever there is a natural stoker call, monitors ashes and can activate an autodialer if necessary, controls dump zones, tells you how many dumps you did in a day (who wouldn't want to know that!), tells you how many stoker calls you had in a day, tells you how long the stoker ran for the day, can control a draft blower, etc.

Replace your old mechanical timer. Just buy a used Siemens Logo controller on the internet to plug the module into. You can usually buy them for less than $120. The program module works in Siemens LOGO 230RC 6ED1052-1FB00-0BA4, 0BA5 or 0BA6 programmable relays.
Thanks

Now that I am getting near retirement age (I am phasing over from "young and stupid" to "old and dumber!", we are considering the ultimate furnace (moving south).
We had a realtor come look at our 4,200 sq. ft. house. She said "its a beautiful home, but it must cost a fortune to heat".
We told her we had a secret weapon in the basement that keeps the house toasty warm all winter for under $2,400, we used to pay over $8,000. She was very impressed.
We never did tell her it was coal.

Good thing you didn't tell her. She probably would have insisted that the house wouldn't sell until you scrapped the old coal burner and installed a nice oil burner!

Sorry to hear your moving. You have a lot of time, effort and thought wrapped up in that heating system, I hope the next owner appreciates it.

I am surprised your realtor didn't go through the basement and take a look at the heating system - mine did. I wish you the best of luck with selling the home, but after trying to sell mine for 1 year with an EFM I suggest you get prepared to deal with people that either see no benefit from the coal system, or are turned off by the thought of owning a home that would need such a system. Hopefully you meet the right buyer and they see the alternate heating system as a benefit.

I mentioned to the realtor that we also had a top of the line German oil boiler. But then my wife said we actually prefer the other system. I knew what she meant, the EFM keeps the basement and hence all the floors warmer in cold weather and the whole house warmer.

But I agree with you that most people incorrectly think coal is dirty and produces smoke. If you were to ask, most people would assure you that wood burning would be less messy.

Having done both wood and coal over the years, their is no comparison on safety, ease, lack of smoke or cleanliness of coal compared to wood.

If oil is low on cost, they can burn that. However I would hope that any intellegent new potential owner would like the fact that they will never have to be at the mercy of the whims of the oil market and Wall street.

We just wanted to get an opinion of value first. The realtor said she had someone from out of town coming that she thought the would like the house and she wanted us to list it for this one person.

We still have three daughters going to college in town living here, so we may elect to keep it awhile longer.

On the other hand, while it is one of the nicest houses in town, it is high end price wise. Buyers in this price range don't come along often, so we have some thinking to do.

If we only had a crystal ball in life!

Don't sweat the "Crystal Ball" ! They're back-ordered ! You & Ma are just going to have to navigate this one by the seat of Your experienced pants.

I will say that it's always been a total pleasure reading Your EFM Wildman posts. Your experiences, design and builds regarding Your System and support have inspired many on this Board. I hope You stick around for many moons regardless of where Life takes You...... Take Care, and Happy Contemplating !

Well, we are still here enjoying Vermont winters while our 3 daughters go to local colleges.

After holding coal for 7 years, a couple of our bulk bags started getting rips, so I decided (actually they decided for me) to replace them.

I had used deck screws to hold down the bag interior plywood hold down retaining ring. But this time I used 1/4" lag screws and washers. It will make it easier next time as I won't have to clean out the screw heads. I used 2" long on the sides and 1-1/2" long on the "bridge" over the slide gates.

But enough talk, you guys like pictures, so here goes........

All set for clean, lazy coal use!

My coal shovel will have to wait another 7 years to get used again!
