For anyone who cannot open the Logo Function Descriptions attachment above, here is the description printed out;

Logo Stoker Monitor

The Logo stoker monitor simplifies running your stoker appliance.
It gives it a brain so it can handle situations itself and shows you what is going on.
The Logo saves fuel, electricity and wear and tear on your stoker by only stoking when it needs to instead of stoking on a fixed time cycle. An older fixed time cycle stoker can potentially do over 6,000 hold fire calls in a heating season, many of which are right after a natural stoker run. Logo eliminates these unnecessary stoker hold fire calls.
Logo can also automatically keep your stoker going in difficult weather conditions, such as spring, fall and summer, without your attention.
Logo gives you vital information as to what your stoker is doing every day, enabling you to adjust your stoker for maximum fuel efficiency.
Other than setting the clock for the date and time, you do not have to program anything. If you like to tinker, you can easily change the factory settings via the arrow keys.
You can use the Logo for any of the following functions you desire. It can be wired to simply just use the Hold fire Timer function or any combination of the below features.

Hold Fire Timer

Pushbutton settable to any delay time and on time desired.
Saves fuel by allowing the user to set different longer hold fire times in the winter.
Hold fire timer resets to 0 anytime there is a natural call for heat.
Saves fuel and stoker wear and tear by reducing unneeded hold fire stoker calls and pushing the water temperature above the high temp limit in the summertime, reducing the chance of an out-fire.
Displays delay time, time accumulated towards next call, count of how many hold fire calls so far for day and how long the stoker is set to run for during a hold fire call.

Dump Timer

Pushbutton settable to any delay time and on time desired. Set to a slightly longer time than the hold fire time.
Dump timer resets to 0 anytime there is a natural call for heat.
It can only exceed the hold fire time and reach the dump time by the boiler being in over temp lockout. Closes contacts wired in parallel to thermostat to pull in dump zone valve (dump zone can be any zone in your house that you select to shed heat into).
Prevents out-fires by pulling dump zone on when hold fire timer is locked out by high temperature limit. The dump zone lowers the water temperature, calling on the stoker.
Displays delay time, time accumulated towards next call, count of how many dump calls so far for day and how long the dump valve will be on to dump the heat.
Saves fuel by monitoring dump counts per day. This enables you to tune your system between enough hold fire stoker run times to prevent out-fires, yet not too much time that the system requires dumps.

Draft Inducer Timer

Draft inducer function is designed to help your chimney’s natural draft maintain your fire during hot weather when your chimney’s natural draft is low.
Safety Note: This feature is not designed to be used with a chimney-less direct vent draft inducer. Doing so could result in CO buildup in the event of a power failure!
To use the draft feature, install a draft inducer fan in the exhaust duct to your chimney on the chimney side of barometric damper. To call the draft inducer fan on, you can use a low negative pressure switch monitoring the exhaust draft, or an outside temperature switch monitoring outside air temperature, or simply a maintained switch that you turn on when you think you need extra draft.
Pushbutton settable to any delay time and on time desired.
After receiving an input from a low flue draft pressure switch, outside temperature switch or simply a manual draft summertime switch, it runs an exhaust duct draft inducer fan in timed cycles, just enough to keep the fire going between natural stoker runs.
This saves fuel, electricity and wear and tear on the inducer blower by running it only when needed and then for only a limited time.
Displays delay time, on time, time accumulated towards next call, and number of draft calls per day.
Saves fuel by monitoring draft call counts per day. This enables you to tune your system between enough hold draft run times to prevent out-fires, yet not too much time that the system burns excess fuel.
To eliminate false low negative draft calls from a draft pressure switch, it has a built in 5 minute timer that has to be at low draft for 5 minutes continuous to initiate the draft inducer cycle.
Note: If the user elects not to use the draft inducer function, they can use the Q4 output contacts for another function, to close anytime there is a call for the stoker. The contacts can be utilized to call on a 24 volt AC stoker drive signal, or simply for a remote indicator light showing the stoker is running. Install jumper from terminal 1 to terminal 10 to enable this feature.

Ash Alert

Tracks stoker time and reminds you if you have forgotten to take out the ashes. It sounds an alarm or calls your cell phone through a separate auto-dialer.
The Logo is programmed to only alert you during daytime hours so as not to bother you. The Logo displays stoker ash hour’s alert trigger time and actual stoker run hours since last ash removal. If you change the auger ratchet teeth setting, you simply change the ash interval time.
This saves you from dumping the ash bucket unnecessarily by showing you at all times how much ash is in the basket.
It also gives the users piece of mind, preventing issues before they happen.

Maintenance Alert

Tracks stoker time and reminds you when long term chimney and heat exchanger cleaning maintenance is due. Sounds an alarm or calls your cell phone through a separate auto-dialer. Again, the Logo is programmed to only alert you during daytime hours so as not to bother you.
Displays long term maintenance hours alert trigger time and accumulated time.

Stoker Minutes Per Day

Tracks and displays how many minutes the stoker ran the previous day (this was our record day, over 18 hours of stoker time heating a 4,200 sq. ft. house on a setting of 5 teeth in below 0 temperatures).
This can be compared with published heating degree days to tune your stoker for maximum efficiency. Can also be used to calculate pounds of fuel consumed and estimate usage rates. Just multiply the stoker run minutes by the feed rate table for your feed setting.
Another screen displays run minutes on Tuesdays – Thursdays -Saturdays. So you also see how many minutes of stoker time for the current day.
This helps you estimate when you will need to add fuel or remove ashes.

General Info

The Logo uses a password protected non-volatile internal memory. The Logo will not lose its memory from a power loss. It has a built in battery that retains the time/date for up to 80 hours. If powered off longer, just use the arrow keys to update the time and date. The Logo uses the time and date to not wake you up during the night and to know what day it is for the Stoker Minutes Per Day counters.
While you cannot change the locked password protected program, you can adjust the following input parameter settings via the keypad;
• Outfire (holdfire) stoker interval time
• Outfire (holdfire) stoker on time
• Dump Zone interval time
• Dump Zone on time
• Draft Inducer Interval time
• Draft Inducer On time
• Ash Hours alert time
• Maintenance Hours alert time

I am wondering if you can send me a copy of your wiring schematic that was used on your install

Thanks,

Page 5 is a sketch of all our boiler wiring.

If you just want to know how to wire a Logo programmable relay for monitoring your stoker, see the attached drawing.

It shows wiring for all the possible stoker monitoring functions. You can just wire for the hold fire timer, or all functions.

I have complete instructions available for how to wire it. It is very simple.

The attached drawing may be hard to read on your computer, Inputs are; I1 is Stoker On, I2 is Ash Reset, I3 is Low Draft, I4 is Select Alarm for Normally Open or Normally Closed, I5 is Select Draft Message and I6 is Alarm Silence.

The outputs are; Q1 Stoker Call On, Q2 Dump Call on to zone valve, Q3 is autodialer or alarm and Q4 is draft inducer fan, if used.

If anyone is interested I have found a retailer in NY that will sell a closure top bag that will probably work well with Vermontday's brilliant skid idea.
Here is the link.
http://www.trusupply.com/DUFFLE-TOP-CLOSED-BOTTOM ... ON-BAG.htm
I just purchased a 10 pack myself, not a bad way to store over 10 tons of coal that can be moved and used easily.

Nice find!

1-1/3 cubic yards should hold about a ton.

Just half to follow Vermont's design and all should go well.
It's nice to have a blueprint on a job.
