This isn't the type of thing one normally hears from an EFM owner. Usually the "bitch" part leaves right around the time the EFM arrives.

About 2 tons since mid October. Heating 2550 sqft of living space and 1250 sqft of basement in a well insulated home.

Consumption is about 40 lbs a day since temps went up to the low thirties.

Opps, fogot to add temps. House is 70 main floor, 68-69 second floor, and mid sixites in basement. Gets warmer in basement when the furnace is on high fire.

I must be doing something wrong. I have a efm 520 boiler and have used 6 ton since sept of 09. I got my 3rd load about 3 weeks ago to put me at buying 9 ton this season. I am in sch. county burning Superior rice coal. I am heating 2400 sq feet right now and am adding another 1200 feet the summer. built in 1852 and has mostly original 6 pane windows. very little insulation.

This is my 2nd season with coal heat, keep my 32 window, 16 hot water rads, 1/2 inslated, old victorian, at a toasty 74 from oct 16 till temps went up three weeks ago, at 68 now till shut down . Total this season 8.5 tons so far, per last year 9.75, will do a complete over haul this summer on "The Allen" stoaker, hope that helps a little.

Stoker Coal Boiler: Keystoker KA-6

Post by tikigeorge » Wed. Mar. 31, 2010 8:59 pm

I have a 2000sqf two story. An old house 1st floor new second floor. Used 4 tons from mid sept to mid March. Making domestic HW in Sept ,then heat the rest of the year.I have a Keystoker KA-6 Hot water boiler. My first year with it and using Buckwheat coal. I made a change to the small draft motor. I installed a speed control and have my intake control wide open, and the fan at slow speed. Also in have direct outside air to the small fan. This worked all winter and now the days will be getting warmer,I may have to increase the speed to keep the fire going. I'll know soon because it will be in the high 70's this weekend.
