It probably just leaked out of the Schrader valve... If it's more than 5 years old, you might want to get a spare to have on hand.

Maybe the valve stem had a microscopic leak that took years to lose its air..

Repeat what you did earlier. Drain boiler pressure to zero. Add air to the expansion tank to 19 psi. Then turn the auto fill valve back on.

Stoker Coal Boiler: Gentleman Janitor GJ-5, Van Wert VA-600, Axeman Anderson130 X3.
Hand Fed Coal Furnace: Harman SF3500 reduced down to 3 grates connected to its own plenum
Coal Size/Type: Rice, Chestnut and whatever will fit through the door on the Harman
Other Heating: Noth'in but COAL! Well, Maybe a little tiny bit of wood
