I thought about just spraying some water on it before I rake it towards the auger. Just worried about being end of season running damp/wet coal through metal transfer tube is asking for rust problems. I guess the mineral oil would be the way to go or just rake really slow like I have been to minimize the dust.

Could you rig an exhaust fan out through the load door in your bin?

What I did was put in a 12" axial fan with the intake of the duct at the back top corner of the bin. The duct routes through the floor trusses and out the side of the house like a dryer, only a (much) larger door - painted to match the brick. I have it wired into the light switch so when the bin light is on, the fan is on.

Actually that would be perfect and yes it would fit! Thanks for the thought.

Lee, we were up in your neck of the woods today. My wife’s birthday and she wanted to eat at Spragues.

I haven't seen this much rain for a long while. The Axeman has been cold since it went out about a month ago. I fired up her up this morning to help with my swamp in the basement and to make some hot water.

I've found a quick way to re light it. I shove a few cups of wood pellets into the coal pile in the burn chamber. I'll use the bottom end of a glass beer bottle to push them deep. Then ignite the pellets with a heat gun while the combustion fan is running. After a good coal fire is going I'll run the ashing lever manually to move the fire down and bring in more fresh coal. Once the exhaust temp is up to 200 degrees I put the feed tube belt back on so it can continue ashing on its own.

I hope everyone is having a nice summer in spite of all this rain :D

Good day everyone! The landscape is changing... from a nuclear green to pale shades of yellow in places, leaves are starting to fall, the days are growing shorter and the angle of the sun is progressively more pronounced!... and here we go into yet another season of awesome heat from those fantastic black diamonds :)... Of which, we just had 6 tons poured into the basement bin. Six tons of beautiful pea size Jeddo Mammoth Vien anthracite. Still $235 per ton delivered, my coal guy hasn't raised his price in 10 years now but it's bound to happen pretty soon, I'm sure..

Ruby is up and running. Providing heat on the cool nights and making domestic hot water in the meantime. Man, I love this machine!

I hope everyone had a nice summer. The pool has all been put away but there's still plenty of nice days to come for drinks and grilling...

I have 23 tons of Lehigh Pea sitting on the concrete I need to get put into super sacks. Want to remove the fan plate and horizontal stove pipe to check for fly ash. Fill the bin and I'll be ready to go. Can't wait to fire it up! Oh, need to seal up that pope's hat from the top also.

If I recall correctly, I just used a rope stove gasket for that.

Still lovin the Axe260 I take it? Did you end up using a little less coal than the rice burner? Or did you increase the heat demand..
