Coal is in the basement! Took 7 ton and I could get 1 more in there but will be a lot of raking so we'll see how it goes. What a good feeling and everything worked just about to plan. I forgot to take into account that the hole in the basement was a foot off the ground so I lost a couple degrees of slope. I had to doggy dig to get the coal to flow due to it's wetness but was a piece of cake!

I broke down and bought a concrete placer rake at Lowe's this year. It worked great moving the coal around during delivery. Much better than the garden rake i used to use.

Lit the fire last night but before I did I performed the dry run test that we talked about from last season. With the feed screws maxed out for 1 hour the stokers ran exactly 10lbs of buck. Not sure how accurate it is in comparison to burning but that is what it will feed with no fire. Fire started really quick and now just to get the settings optimized. Since slowing the furnace fan down, my delta is now 30-35* which is about a 10* difference. We will see how it does when it gets colder and puts more of a load on it. Right now the boiler will be in idle fire and I'll get a heat call and the boiler will lose 30*. I turned up the boiler temp to 180* on 190* off to try and compensate for this thinking the fire will start sooner but I still need to optimize the fire..... I have a couple inches of ash so i need to turn up the feed. Really shocking how little of air buck takes to burn, I have my combustion blower adjusters almost all the way closed! I am also going to try something different with the power vent this year. Normally when it starts losing draft I turn the rheostat up and run the fan faster and keep turning it up as it loses draft till it won't keep up over time. I am going to shut it down and clean it as soon as I start losing draft instead of turning it up, might help me? Anyway, that is it till I get home to check and see how it made it through the day! Nice hot shower this morning also!

was the fan 3 speed...
If so try the slowest speed...
Then you will be at the magic 20* delta...

10 pounds out of each stoker? Or 10 pounds out of both combined?swyman wrote: ↑Thu. Hopefully both...
If only 10 pounds total...
Then the heat problem is solved...

My fan is a 4 speed and I hooked it up the black wire which (should) be the low speed? I could not find my manual so I am not totally sure but I did notice that it is running slower by the sound. My delta was 40-45* so it a big improvement but not yet ideal. I will get that delta down so my boiler will keep up. Just one thing at a time. Please keep the suggestions/comments coming, I need all the help I can get!CapeCoaler wrote: ↑Thu. Oct. 18, 2018 7:42 amwas the fan 3 speed...

10lbs with both stokers total in the ash pan. What's that work out to for max output if I could burn it all at that rate....which I can't but maybe with this buck I could?hotblast1357 wrote: ↑Thu. Oct. 18, 2018 7:49 am10 pounds out of each stoker? Or 10 pounds out of both combined?

Wow.....
10 pounds, 12,000 BTU’s per pound, 120,000 btu input, you might get 80,000 BTU’s out of it...
That thing should be pushing 10 pounds out of each...
Wow...

There is no way that can be right but my biggest burning days were around the 220lb mark in the past? I need to do that again taking me out of the equation. I was holding the pan while on scale....maybe that threw it off? I am going to retest when I shut it down for cleaning. but write all the numbers down. Off memory I was 256.6 alone, 270.0 holding empty pan and 280.0 holding test pan. That empty ash pan doesn't seem like it could weigh 14lbs. I need a small scale to only read pan and coal so I am not in the equation.

On your blower this is the most likely case: The red wire is slow speed, the blue wire is medium speed, and the black wire is high speed.

If its only pushing 10 lbs. of coal per hour, it is only giving you a bit more than half of what you paid for. When set to give full output, it needs to be pushing 9 lbs. on each stoker, and 18 lbs. per hour total.

220 pounds is right on, that’s 9 pounds an hour. U measured 10.swyman wrote: ↑Thu. It should be eating like 440 pounds wide open for 24 hours...
Like Larry said, your only getting half what you purchased!
Which goes to show that MOST of the time, the coal forum members on here are right, I’ve read many times in my time on here, expect to get half what the BTU rating is on a device, because no one actually test anything... besides Axeman Anderson..

I got it backwards, that's how it's hooked up.....I didn't remove the cold because it was on high speed, got the 2 mixed up. I did watch a you tube video that showed how to check motor resistance to verify but I didn't do it.
