If noise was power, Detroit Diesels would rule the earth.
Wait until BigBarney gets his electric drive 18-wheeler out here running around Rob... it will be so quiet we will long for the days of big Caterpillars and Detroits just to hear the roar and FEEL the power.
Hell, I might have to buy an Axeman just to replicate the sound of days gone by!

Fair enough, some microphones can be pretty sensitive.

Wow does everyone just run with a comment!
My 260 is actually very quiet, just a fan running, no coal rattling, or ratchet sounding gears lol

Not that I'm trying to beat a dead horse but I did do a quick look up on cell phone audio. Many phones have an ACG circuit to balance volume.
Automatic gain control (AGC), also called automatic volume control (AVC), is a closed-loop feedback regulating circuit, the purpose of which is to provide a controlled signal amplitude at its output, despite variation of the amplitude in the input signal.

An now that the cellphone audio topic has been kicked around, Don doesn't use a cell phone for the videos, He uses an actual video camera.

Hotblast
Is your boiler quiet because it has a hopper?

All giggles and laughs aside, seriously it is very interesting to me to see Don running this Axeman on a rice/pea mix. I was always under the assumption that these would only run on pea.
I have had several new customers ask to return a load of rice after they got their sizes mixed up and found they bought the wrong one.
Do you think these would run on rice only or would that be too fine for the rate adjustments?

Yes mine is hopper fed.
Coal jockey, I would dare say it would run on rice, just a lower output.

I've run mine on range and buck. Even in a pinch I have run nut through it but it won't roll enough to feed the auger. It basically becomes a hand fed on that stuff. I imagine an agitator would help but I don't recommend it except in an emergency.

With the hopper I would burn anything from rice to nut I think. Unless the nut was really large.

I recall someone on this forum trying nut in an AHS a number of years back, and they reported getting occasional annoying out-fires due to bridging. I have never had pea bridge on me in the 7 years I've had my boiler.
The AHS does not have any of the sounds (noise) associated with the auger.

I don't know as to the 260, but on the 130 the discharge tube at the bottom of hopper is only about 6" in diameter. If this diameter is greater for a 260, then the potential likelihood of bridging with nut will be reduced.
You may want to consider the potential that nut may burn noticeably faster and thereby hotter, and this extra heat may hasten the failure of the front fan motor bearing.
