From what iv read the 520 is sometimes used in apt. buildings and light commercial applications. A single stove could probably handle several well insulated homes. Or one or two uninsulated ones. Im sure it can out perform a wood stove now heating the home
My 520 is heating only 3500 sq.ft....
3 different buildings...
#1- 1972 Mobile home @ 12 x60,with additions on 1 side makes it almost 24 X 60,LOUSY vinyl windows that leak,trailer is 2x3 walls,little to no insulation...
#2 - 30 x 40 Shop,mostly block walls,1 side addition is 4" pole barn walls..
#3 - 1987 14 x 70 Mobile home ,2 x 4 walls,old windows..
Approximately 1,000 ft. of 1" pex underground to connect the boiler located in a 53' truck box to the 3 buildings...

When temps drop near zero, 7 teeth of feed is needed but the 520 is able !! :)

Is that 500’ long, 1,000’ back and forth?

Or 1,000’ long, 2,000’ back and forth?

1,000 ft total of single 1" pex.

I suppose that would qualify as 1,000 linear ft.?

The 520 should give me all the capacity I would ever want. I'll plan on adding provisions for an additional zone or two just in case....
Now that my better half has signed on to the idea, it's time to start planning this out.

My sons house has a 520. It was heating a poorly insulated single home and a 5 car uninsulated garage when he moved in ,and it was on the lowest teeth setting. 4 i think.

Is there a specific vintage of the unit that's required for the oil burner option. In other words, when did EFM start offering the oil burner option on the DF-520.
Any one Labeled a DF is Dual Fuel. ;)

Posted elsewhere here :
When the DF520 was introduced in the late '70s, the square door was added, and the S20 stoker was used.
Look for a Square Door as opposed to the earlier round door. ;)

I like them round one a treat...Seems that the square door will get him the oil option he requires, though. :)

Once in a while you run a across a round door boiler that is a dual fuel unit. They do not come up often, and are typically priced lower than the square door units. There is one on Craigslist right now.

I guess this thread is getting long. Round door dual fuels were discussed on p3.

SO WHAT !! :P

We are all getting older & forget some things. :?

Any thing worth saying once is also worth repeating.

Round doors are not as pretty to look at & are a pain in the butt, neck, shoulders & arms if trying to do something thru that tiny round door. :)
