I have a friend that got burn't that winter all the variable rate plans jumped up . He had switches to his provider and then let it transition to a variable. Now he sticks with PPL no matter what and he heats with electric baseboard and a small amount of wood. He'll spend hours on the computer playing around but won't spend 10 minutes shopping electric rates. Oh well.

Many in my state got burnt by a variable rate scheme. These can be fine, one has to read their electric bill and the contract. But 99% of people are stupid. So my state now has it where you can cancel the contract w/o penalty - demorats pandering votes.

The rates are always variable at some point in time.

I never get a variable rate.Your asking for rate hikes. Fixed rate,no enrollment fees, no monthly fees and no cancellation fees. I dont bother with anything else. Plenty of options without going variable.

Me too . The problem arises when the term expires and you're asleep at the switch. I have yet to stick with a company because the new rate is never competitive . You would think they would want to keep you but they keep playing the same game over and over. Come-on rate then jack em up.

Just checked out available deals in my area. Rates are looking better here too. Hope they get even better by winter.

I try to get 12 ,18 or 24 month terms . Then you dont have to watch them so close. I did have a 24 month term at 9.6c .The new rate is 9.1c but only for 6 months.

I don't see the low "come on" rates for 3 month terms anymore.

My new rate is 12 months. So thats inching up.I guess they expect an economic meltdown to tame inflation so not so worried about that.

Anyone subscribed to Santana's unlimited plan? Looks like it's $106 per month generation charge up to 2000 kwh average a month. That would be about $185 total per month. Electric heat usage in all but the coldest months could be affordable if I'm reading it right. Only available to customers below 30,000 kwh per year. No monthly charge. No cancellation charge.

Damn! That's well beyond my monthly usage.

I usually wait until someone calls me out of the blue offering to save me money on electricity. They always have the best rates by far.😁

Those offers that come in the mail almost daily are ripoffs.Buried in the fine print is rates 50% higher then market. If they offer a $50 credit card you know the rate is way too high.

But if that usage included your heat bill it would not be that bad considering the price of coal now.
