Thanks K2
That eliminates that option. I guess I go with the 3 month plan at about 10 cents kwh to get me through the coldest part of the winter and hope things get better but I'm not holding my breath.
Even PPL is not hinting what the new rate will be after Nov when the current rate or 12.3 expires. Hopefully with oil coming down that will help.

The amount of NG going to Europe is driving the price way up, which also drives electric rates up.

Add to that converting so many coal and nuclear powered plants to Nat gas for domestic consumption.I can just imagine the amount of gas a power plant will go through. Nuclear plants are he only ones not affecting climate at all.

Really???
Converting nuclear generation plants over to NG.
Can you provide a link to read about this?

Perhaps it was decommissioning/replacing nuclear plants with Nat gas powered rather than converting. Happened a lot in europe.

Thanks for the kind reply! :)

What I did see and read in the provided link was just that. The "shuttered" nuclear plants are being "replaced" by NG plants...so not actually NUCs being "converted" over to now spin their turbines with NG.

I have worked in nucs in PA that would output over One gigawatt (GW) = 1,000 megawatts = 1 billion watts...now that would take a heck of big pipeline to keep one, let alone both of those spinning turbines happy on a hot August afternoon. :)

Just out of curiosity, any guesstimate on that number?

The big abundant cheap supply of Nat gas wont last forever either. I thing its a BIG BIG mistake to replace let Nuke plants with Nat gas plants. Nuke plants should be replaced with new design Nuke plants. The old design is what 50 to 70 yrs old?

Here is an interesting article about why Europe does not drill for NG even though it has more than us. Population density, tremors and no monetary incentive for landowners along with environmental concerns all play a part. Some new designs work with gravity for cooling and shutting down in case of emergency where they auto shut down by gravity when electric is cut. Would have prevented the Japan meltdown. Gravity i s a lot more reliable than electric supply.

Nukes from Madame Curie forward have all shut down by gravity.
Where are you coming up with this stuff??

Shutting down stops fission but always some decay heat needs removed by cooling water and that takes power for pumps.

Japan design failed due to flooding of the backup diesel generators. No pumps for decay heat removal.

But maybe you have more???

No need for pumps if its under water.

No, No No you’re make this all up as you go…man I hate misinformation. 🤨

Decay heat “REMOVAL”…better be a pump!!!
