Wanted to share my new stove - came from Jamestown NY and hasn't been used since atleast 1951 - has been in an attic. I would love to get it restored and put in service at my house - wondering who restores gas stoves?

Please share your thoughts!

Jim

P.s. I do have the doors, grates and lava rock - removed them as I was blowing out the stove with air

Probably many of the coal fired cook stove restorers have experience with gas as well.

Thanks for the replies. I will reach out to Stove Hospital.

Did a little polishing of the nickle with some Brasso. Few hours later and elbow grease, not too shabby. Still lots more to go

U, if'n it was me, I hook up a barbecue tank & try & light the old girl-- BUT, first I'd remove the flame ring & tap her a few times upside down--I'm bettin you'd know exactly where ya stand gas wise. You're off to a great start with cleanin the old girl up!! :) She sure is purty!!! WHOOPS--forgot to mention, outside would be best for all that testing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Thanks Fred! I haven't had a chance to fire it up yet - that will be in the future.

I would like to get this restored and put into service. Going to call Stove Hospital tomorrow!

Sure did!

Was quoted $1800 to restore it and bring up to code...thats without new nickle and buffing the existing.

There ya go--ya know, for $1800 I'd find some more info on doin myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's pretty basic with a gas stove. I already told ya the most important--take that ring out & gently tap it to clear gas holes--then just some good old elbow grease should do the rest--course I don't have $1800 layin around!! :)

My only issue is that I have no time to do it myself. Currently working 12-14 hr days, 7 days a week and am dead to the world lol.

In a perfect world I would have some hesitations about how the top comes apart, what paint to use, and bringing it up to code.

Not really that I am incapable but I don't want to make a mistake as I can't exactly go find more parts for these ole ladies if something happens that shouldnt.

Little more work done on trying to bring the nickle back. Still a ways to go.

Gotcha U--that nickle's comin around real nice. Probably stupid to ask but I'm sure hoping you've checked other places then that $1800 deal. Probably not a lot of options though. You'll be real proud of her when ya get her done!!! :)

Fred - it seems that not many places deal with gas stoves. Most are coal and/or wood. Believe it or not, from my research, this guy is the go to for gas. I'm am open to other suggestions though of you know of any.
