I got this wood parlor stove for my daughter. Except for replacing the mica and re-nickeling the foot rail it is in near perfect shape. This stove has no refractory or cast iron shielding on the side, back or right loading door. Should I do something to protect the cast iron shell? I presume the base needs to be filled with an inch or so of sand to protect the base?

Nice find L. I've seen them with just the sand in the bottom.
