Hi every one, I have a question about a Warm Morning 520 that I am looking at to be used for wood (no coal in s.w. mn.), I haven't seen it yet but I do know that it doesn't have the fire bricks in it. I am wondering about the performance of the stove without the bricks or if it is even possible/advisable? I have no experience with this type of stove. Not asking too much $$ but if it has to have bricks to work right then maybe I should keep looking. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Steve.

It has to have bricks. The sheet metal will warp badly without bricks.

Hey thanks for your reply. I haven't been up close to this thing yet tho it's only 10 miles away. Apparently the round "barrel" part is not too thick then. I guess I'll stay away from it then. The bricks are kinda spendy + shipping. Looking for something vertical for a small building so I don't have to give up too much space. Tanks for the info!!
Steve.

The sheet metal is 22 gauge.
You could, for wood use, line it yourself with standard fire brick about 16 to 18 inches up. A neat job would need the bricks trimmed to fit though. Diamond wheel and cheap Harbor Freight angle grinder. Lots of dust, so outside.

I guess I could look into that. I'll have to see if it's still available and if there are any bricks locally. Thanks for the idea.

Amazing what this member was able to achieve for Warm Morning brick replacements:

It took a bit of shaping on the bottom bricks to fit the grate and get a level start but wasn't too bad. The cost of replacements and earlier ideas / thought implants in this post just caused the OCD to say there's gotta be a better way!

No, for wood you only need bricks to keep the hot wood coals from coming in contact with the sheet metal stove body.
