Question for the plumbers on the forum. My son's father in law is installing a gas boiler I their home in Wisconsin. New installation. I just saw a picture of the boiler and a few devices he has installed already. I noticed he has the backflow preventer after the pressure reducing valve. He doesn't take criticism very well so I'm hesitant to say anything. I know that it is wrong but will it still work?

Besides criticism how is he towards plumbing codes?
Or...maybe they're both seen as the same?

It will work either before or after. It really depends on the local code.

Thank goodness! I didn't really want to tell him it was wrong. I'm pretty sure the manufacturer says on the high pressure side though.coaledsweat wrote: ↑Wed. Dec. 19, 2018 3:08 pmIt will work either before or after. It really depends on the local code.

Wait until he is out of town and the boiler goes down. Your daughter has to make a service call, Repair man either won't touch it or he charges to bring it up to code on top of fixing the reason it went down.

I look at lots of boilers in the course of my job and probably 75% don't even have a backflow preventer. A new installation should be done correctly though. I just wanted to know of the valve would function under the low pressure.
