Scottsman, do you make a practice of periodically flushing the debris out of the boiler?

I usually let a gallon or so off every month or so, letting it run from rusty color to clean, but haven't actually flushed it. When the HVAC company comes to service the boiler I think they focus on the burner. I wish I were here when then were so I could see what they do.

That draining should prevent any big buildup.

Like was said, vinegar is weak and safe. By using a large quantity and given a lot of time it can get the job done if calcium carbonate (lime) is the issue here.
Stronger acids would take less amount and take less time, but at a higher safety risk.
