I just bought a home and am learning about my Franco Belge stove. Today my kerosene wasn't feeding the line so after some research i found that people were mixing ways to heat. I was wondering, can i burn my kerosene and wood at the same time in my stove for a hotter heat? My only source of heat is kerosene in a 1700 sq ft home but i don't know whats good. I read where someone suggested a magnetic thermometer so i plan to do that as well. I'm not sure of my model number but i report back once i know. Thanks in advance. I am changing the filter, cleaning the thing i need to twist and pull and checking the safety switch to see if these may be the reason the kerosene isn't coming into the house.

Don't know where your from cause ya didn't finish your profile--BUT, if your feed line from the tank & tank is outside, ya might want to pull the line off the tank to make sure it's not frozen---if it's set for a while, moisture builds up & it CAN freeze up. If so, take a burnzamatic torch & get it thawed--then add some fresh kero. That has happened to me before I went completely to coal.

oh, i didn't realize i didn't finish. I'm in Northern California. Yesterday was about 50 degrees or so. Would it not unfreeze in those temps? And how do i know if it's frozen in the line?
It shouldn't be frozen in 50* weather. Do you have kero in the tank? Don't go by the gauge it could be broken. My niece recently found they had a broken gauge on the oil tank in their newly bought house when their boiler stopped working.
Changing the filter is a good idea since you don't know when it was last done. Was that the first time you lit it?
I did a quick search and didn't see any franco belge oil burners that can also burn wood. What model is your franco belge? Can you post a pic of it?

I do have kerosene (190 gallons). The company i use came and checked it. It's a gravity fed stove, i don't know if that helps. That isn't the first time i lit it. Sometimes during the day it gets hot inside so i've turned it off and on quite a few times. I'll check the model when i get home in a couple of hours. Thanks for searching for the wood burning part. Ill try and get a pic.

Since its oil I would change the filter. These should be changed annually. 50* won't freeze kero. You may be losing prime to the stove as well, a cracked line or loose fitting could be sucking air causing loss of pressure. The pickup tube in the tank may be cracked or broken as well. I had a similar issue with my boiler and needed to replace the pickup tube.

You can only burn oil in a stove designed for that fuel.
Loosen the line from the tank at the stove to see if oil flows. Be sure to wipe up or catch any oil coming out.

If there is any water in the tank from condensation, the water could be the cause of the out-fires.I remember that very thing happening many yrs ago when we were heating a small house with a gravity fed Duo-Therm kerosene heater.

Bam,Welcome !
I'm a complete moron. I'm scratching my noggin' on just what kind of Franco-Belge You're heating the hacienda with....
I didn't realize that there's a Dual-Fuel Franco. Please help an 'Ol Knuckledragger like me and provide all the Manufacturer's Information from the tag ,stamping or data plate that's on You're stove. Perhaps some pics of You're Kero Tank Set Up outside that includes the shut off valve and filter body. Also include the inside set up of how the line connects to the stove.
Thanx !

There are quite a few kero and fuel oil European stoves, not just Franco models. Very nice looking stoves. Heres one example with specs. http://www.stevestoyostove.com/franco_belge/franc ... mandie.php
Theres one made on the west coast but the name eludes me, (kuda? Kuna? not sure) a free standing one, that is real efficient too.

Lots more complicated than the old Duo-Therm i used yrs ago.It had a carburetor as they called it,but no burner. It relied on having a dirt pack on the floor of the stove where the fuel entered. The fuel would soak the dirt pack & the fire would wick fuel from the dirt pack. Very simple, but very effective & capable heater.warminmn wrote: ↑Sat. Hi, all! Thank you to everyone who commented. My stove is working now! I changed the filter, cleaned out the corrosion before it pipes into the bowl and reset the shut off switch. I still enclosed photos for those who's curiosity was peaked by my type of stove.
