Im probably jumping the gun. My oil burner seems like she is getting old and I was wondering how the EFM Oil fired units perform? I messaged EFM and was told an SPK600 was equivalent to what I have now.

My brother has one and I don’t know of any issues. EFM is known for making quality products, made in PA. I believe they use a Beckett burner.
That’s all I know, efficiency numbers are probably on their web page.

EFM makes very good products. With that said, is there anything wrong with your current boiler? Old does not necessarily mean unreliable.

Also, if you intend to replace the boiler you should determine if you really need one that large. My oil boiler could easily be half the size it is - I would not size a replacement based on the size of the existing unit.

I'd have to measure my radiators etc. It handles heating the house pretty well. I know replacement windows were put in and insulation was brought up to date. I was discussing things with Pacowy and it may be due to our having two full baths.

peerless is good too, made in pennsylvania also. no need to replace it unless it is rusted bad.

i wish i had the budget for a leisure line coal boiler.

we have a regal oil fired hot air furnace, made by peerless in bally pa. the oil gun has not come on since i hooked up the stoker, i have the air handler running 24/7 to distribute the heat from the coal stove tho.


my parents house had a 1946 peerless electric 80 gallon hot water heater until 1991 when it started leaking. it only used 1500 watts. the heating elements were not immersed in water. they were wires wrapped on ceramic insulators that dropped into the hollow center of the tank. electric bill went up 30 bucks a month when i installed a 50 gallon water heater with two elements.

I have, I've been discussing buying a refurbished EFM, or Axeman Anderson.

I currently have an SPK600 "installed" in my house. I have not had any problems with it other than it operates on the dino juice. Its pretty much just a taking up room right now.
