Hey guys. Hope everyone's getting ready for ole man winter. I sure am. That's why I am here. I have been burning coal for 3 seasons and this will be my 4th.

My problem doesn't have anything to do with my coal stoves today.
My problem starts here. This is a a picture of the component of my boiler. I noticed that it was leaking at the begging of the summer when I turned the furnace/boiler off for the summer. It's looking like a gasket is needed. However, I need to know what this is called and how to maintaince it. I do burn coal throughout the entire winter, but I do use natural gas sparingly.

if eyeballed correctly i see "strainer" on the side? It looks like a regulator but im not fully sure. On the first picture it appears to have some sort of Part number and Id say its a bell and gossett with the B&G stamp on it. Do some googling, wait for some more input or better yet make a call to a pro if your not comfortable with the task.

Looks like an old feedwater PRV to me. Is it tied to existing cold water line and then to boiler?

It looks like the feed valve to me also. Replace it.

To save draining the whole system you could drain off the pressure, and screw on the new valve on the fly.

Yes. If I'm not mistaken it comes in off of the main water line.

Any plumbing supply would have a feed valve. Also, Lowes & home depot carries them. They usually come as a " feed valve, back flow preventer " combination.

Replace the valve, they get old, tired and worn. A plumbing supply house would be a good spot to buy one. I'm not impressed with box store quality.

So I am having the hardest time replacing this piece. I have went to my neighborhood plumming supply only for them to tell me that they don't have what I need. They actually did have one but it was a different size and it would require re-fitting the pipes. I just wanted to replace the feed valve.
Where can I find this piece.

On another note Mr. Herald & the King-O-heat better know as the (Cookie Monster because it just loves to eat coal) are humming along nicely. I'd just like to be able to turn the natural gas on if I needed to.

This is todays version of that valve. It comes with female 1/2" NPT threads. You can use reducing bushings if you need smaller. I've never seen anything larger on a residential boiler.

Yeah, that is the exact piece that they showed me at the plumbing supply store. It looks much smaller than the one that is currently connected. Maybe I could be mistaken. I was looking for an exact match.
Color and all. Is my piece obsolete or something? Also, I notice a lever on that one you posted @Coaledsweat.

Yours was the same color when it was new. As it aged, it developed a "patina" like most of us old guys. Same manufacturer. The lever is a manual over ride to fill or flush the boiler.

So should I be concerned that the one in my pic doesn't have a lever. Is mine just that old? Can I just pop the new one on once I get it? Or is there a blue print to follow?

No blueprint, there is an arrow on the side, that goes toward the boiler. If there is no union close, cut the horizontal pipe above. Remove and replace the valve. Install a union at the cut.
