Hand Fed Coal Boiler: DS 100 Coal/Wood bolier

Post by bcdex » Mon. Jan. 25, 2016 10:03 pm

I've been reading a lot on cresote and I noticed a lot of people say when they get a large creasote build up on their glass, the only thing that will take it off is oven cleaner. Just wondering if one would spray some oven cleaner on a piece of wood, let it dry, then next time you load the stove add that piece of wood when you fill it. Will the chemical reaction with the heat crystallize the cresote like those cleaning logs?

Seems like a long shot to me, but if you try it let us know how it works. I think burning anthracite for a few days does more to dry out the creosote then all the products they sell for the same task.

Why not put the oven cleaner on the glass?

Hmmm, no matter how hard I try I can't seem to get creosote ON my glass burnin' coal :punk:

edit: sorry couldn't help myself, baking soda and vinegar and a damp cloth works good...so I heard.
