Wow: Just wow.
This is potentially a big problem because a lot of people do not run antifreeze in their heating systems; myself included. It is not just because I am too cheap to buy antifreeze but because it makes the whole system about 10% less efficient then straight water.
Now granted this happened because of frozen valves, but could have just as easily happened if there was a bad relief valve and the power went out keeping circulators from moving water from the overheating water jacket. I have not completely hooked up my WC-90 New Yorker boiler to my propane system yet, but I did plumb the relief valve OUTSIDE in case my dump zone was not adequate. When it is hooked up I also planned to add an automatic back up generator. We put an awful lot of trust in that little bitty relief valve that is mass produced in a factor by humans.
