this is not a new design but it is a very good update with a fantastic secondary air system.

there are plenty of features of this stove that can be redirected to other uses ;)

And they still make 'em.

A buddy's folks used them in their fireplace. They helped grab heat, but the tubes rusted out in a few years.

Reminds me of the Black Jack headers on my 72 AMX. :D

yep, the first of this style I ever saw was back then, some guys were bending and adding tubes to the original pre-cat. ELM horizontal barrel stoves.

then some others started making stoves of their own with the tube feature.

coal version ? I started to model a fire pot and ash chamber last night.

here's some pics fo the first production versions of this style

http://hearth.com/gall/d/415-1/freeflow39.jpg

https://www.hearth.com/gall/d/262-1/freeflow.jpg

http://www.bullerjan.com/typo3temp/fl_realurl_ima ... -01-hi.jpg

i found a page from hearth.com where one of their members reported fully heating 3600s.f. on 3 levels with one of the original free-flow brand 9 tube units. very impressive, think how much easier it would have been with coal being a much longer consistent burn cycle.

and because I mentioned these otherwise mostly forgotten but very hardy and venerable old solid heaters here's a vid by the guy who has been instrumental in not only saving many of them but also perfecting an excellent secondary air afterburner for them to get rid of the cat. junk they were saddled with in later iterations.

hope you find this interesting,
steve
