Anybody Using Hot Water Coil in Clayton Furnace?

I was just wondering if anybody is using one of those hot water coil kits in a clayton furnace. My mother has the clayton in her house and is talking about going to a pellet boiler or furnace so I could have the clayton if I wanted it. Figured I could plumb it in for the water heading to the hot water heater and kind of preheat it maybe..think that would work? I'm going to try and post some pics if I can figure it out.

I've been thinking of trying coal in it but I get my firewood mostly red oak for free and I know how to set it up to burn that real well. And it seems burning coal is a whole different method to get proper burns it be tough for me to switch but id like to give it a try maybe get a few bags and try it out or do a wood coal mix. Eventually id like to get an efm stoker setup with a big hopper would be nice.

I used to have that exact set up. I looped it into
the hot water heater with a small circulator pump.
It provided all the hot water I needed 4 people 40 gallon
tank.

Did it heat it without using the hot water heater at all or was it in addition to the water heater? That would be nice if the water heater didn't have to run that often I didn't think it would heat it up to temp being the coil is so small. Were you burning coal or wood?

If the volume of your current hot water heater can take care of the needs all at once (multiple showers in the morning, etc) then the coil should provide enough hot water. If not you can leave the water heater on at the lowest acceptable temperature to pick up the slack when necessary. A circulator pump will speed up the recovery time but may not be necessary. A simple thermosiphoning loop may work

So it seems like it would work those heat exchanger look like nice stuff wonder how much they go for. We'll have to see if my mom turns to the darkside or not trying to get her to go to a coal boiler after seeing scottscoaled setup but she wont listen. Do you think its worth the 150-250 for the kit or do you think I would be better off making it myself out of some high quality s/s pipe?
