I hope that Kerosene dude comes here to help me understand and find the wick I need for this one because I cant find anything on this unit

After refinishing my Perfection Heater "dump find" last month I won this auction on ebay for a mear $20 bucks! This is a New Process Stove Co. Standard No 40 B Kerosene Heater and I need to find a Wick that will work with it!

The great thing about this Heater is the Rings are indeed real Nickel plate and the base is real cast iron and the window is real Mica! This makes it particularly fun because it will be more akin to an antique coal stove for me :dancing:
The problem is that the reservoir, gear linkage, fill cap & fuel gauge are not solid Brass (like the perfection) and I had to nearly beat the screw fill cap off to unfreeze it (not looking forward to discovering how frozen/fused together the Wick is) and clearly the gearing/flame adjustment is gone on this one as well (must be common because the perfection was also stripped).

With the fill cap off I've filled in with Gasoline and will let that soak for a couple days before trying anything.

Pics below... if anyone can tell me what Wick to get for this unit, it would be wonderful! Thanks guys

Looks similar to the chicken coop heater I have DC, try an Amish store if you have one near-by.

OK, finally got the mutha chucka out :dancing:
Pics attached, The wick in it was defiantly not correctly sized (it left about 2" of the circumference without wick), the cage was the right size because even though the angled gear is stripped it rolls up and down with that wick cage.
My delema is... I don't know if this particular unit dictates that I keep this cage and simply get a Wick more properly sized for it, or if I can obtain a new Wick/Cage assembly that will function with this angled gear (flame adjustment knob)?

P.S. fuel gauge is broke, its a cork float (so I assume its an older unit than the Perfection), Look at that hideous glob of solder someone did in attempt to repair it

In 1901 Francis Drury approached John D. Rockefeller of Cleveland owner of Standard Oil Company. At the time Standard Oil was delivering kerosene to homes and businesses for use in kerosene lamps. Rockefeller knew that with use of the Drury Stove the demand for this kerosene would increase substantially and it did. Rockerfeller selected the company to design, develop and manufacture for it a complete line of stoves which were to be sold under the name "Perfection"!

Now I'm getting somewhere... This is theoretically a "Perfection" Heater but one of the earliest versions still made under the name "Standard Oil Co." which was indeed owned by John D. Rockefeller :P I think I got a winner here for $20 since it is indeed the only post on the internet regarding this Heater!!! win for Dcrane & Win for coalpail.com... Ima make this baby shine! :P

I met the Guru of Kerosene Burners who was kind enough to explain "New Process" Heaters and allow me to
include his comments here. He was recommended to me by another NepaCrossroads member named carlherrnstein who I cant thank enough for
the recommendation and lead to Miles with regards to Kero stuff (Maybe if we are lucky Miles will make a profile here and check on some threads in the Kerosene section from time to time)

"Hi Doug,

The New Process was made by Standard Lighting Co in Cleveland. They also
made the Globe Incandescent lamps.

Perfection was located in Cleveland but they were competitors of Standard
lighting - Standard did not "later" become Perfection.

"The Standard Lighting Company, of Cleveland, Ohio, advertised No. 2 and No.
3 Globe-Incandescent lamps. The fount and burner were primarily sold for
"New Process" heaters and a mammoth hanging lamp. However, the fount was
also fitted into decorative cast-metal stands and sold for table use. Some
stands to use lamps on the table were a modified heater base. The table and
banquet lamps were large due to the sizes of the founts and burners. The
company advertised its Incandescent lamp as "the original large coal oil
lamp," holding oil for eight hours of burning. Large catalogs, published
from the mid-1880s to late 1890s, illustrated vapor street lights, wall
torches, and an increasing number of New Process stoves and ranges. It seems
the company first produced lamps and torches, branching into cooking ovens,
heaters, and more elaborate stoves about 1897."

"The company changed its name from the Standard Lighting Company to New
Process Lighting Co. about 1900. Thomas J. Little, Jr., assigned patents to
the company for gas lighting improvements in 1902. Little went on to assign
patents for city gas lamps to the Welsbach Light Company, Gloucester, New
Jersey, after 1909. Courter, Center Draft Lamps.

There are no parts for the New Process heater. If your wick cage can be
repaired, you can make a wick to fit by using my 3 5/8" wide flat wicking in
24" in lengths, cut to fit. The New Process wicks were thin, about 0.076"
thickness, considerably thinner than the 0.100" thickness of Perfection
wicks. The wick is sewn into a circle with a zig-zag stitch. Sorry for
this bother, but there are no other options I know of for this heater.

You need to measure the diameter of the draft tube precisely. There were
variations and it is important to know the exact diameter of the draft tube
AND the diameter of your wick sleeve. Then I can tell you what wick to use
and you could pass on that information.

Hope this helps! And thanks for the link to nepacrossroads (great site)

Blessings,
Miles"

I'm going to include a link to Miles Vintage Wick Store to help others in the future http://www.milesstair.com/site_index.html
The title on this thread should say "New Process Heater" in it someplace (Rich!)

Not a kero heater C, but something I found buried in the hayloft in the old barn--the barn was built in the 1800's, so no idea of age-- she's copper with mica glass--I've got it workin well but I too am still trying to figure the wick adjuster. I just like my old stuff & love tinkerin!! :) PS--couldn't open the old girl--she's FROZE!!!***** Well, she thawed out!! :)
