I keep hoping to read some good logic on here and most everyone just keeps saying that people are silly to believe that an electric heater can save you money because it's electric and was in an ad on TV. That's about as dumb as saying an electric hybrid car can't save you money because it's electric and featured in ads on TV. Indeed a wood stove is nice, however, not everyone has one or can have one... and wood stoves aren't necessarily cheap as wood costs money too. I have not tried the Heat Surge but I do have an Eden Pure 1000 electric heater and it is amazing! I have central heat in my home but after plugging in this little quartz infrared heater by Eden Pure, my electric bill literally dropped by half! I am saving a TON of money. Plus it's a radiating heater so it doesn't dry the air out and leaves all the furniture in the house toasty warm. For me it not only heats my entire main floor of my small home, it also has reduced my electric bill dramatically! I don't care if Amish, Mormons or Snake Oil Salesmen sell the dang thing IF IT WORKS AS ADVERTISED! Pardon my DUH!

Those Amish heaters are bunk and a waste of money. Simple thermodynamics says you can't get something for nothing (unless you imagine it!). Just another version of the perpetual motion machine.

The Eden Pure is rated at 5000BTUs at 12.5Amps, 1483 Watts. You must have a fantastic electric rate, and a very small house.

Here's a fact, whether it's the Amish heater, Eden Pure ,standard baseboard or the cheapest electric heat you can find you're going to get about 3,412BTU/kWh.

If we compare the Edenpure:

As you can see they both produce the same amount of BTU/h. Electric heat no matter what the source is always going to be exactly the same rate.

Wood is less than half the cost of electric using some average costs.

Just for perspective, I have a 1500W (5K BTU) electric heater in my bathroom, so we don't freeze our asses off getting out of the shower. My bathroom is 5' x 10' & it heats that well. I couldn't imagine trying to heat an entire room with it though. My electric bill would be insane!

That's what they are useful for Smitty, if you have small area not beng heated by main heat or even an enclosed room. You drop the thermostat in the rest of the house and heat one room. If you have electric heat you will save money doing that because you are only heating one room. However If you have electric heat with thermostat in every room it's pointless because you can already do that.

When you move onto comparing it to other fuels you need to take a look at what the other fuels cost/btu. Electric heat is the most expensive heat you can have. If for example you have natural gas which is quite cheap now you might not save anything because the cost to heat that one room is actually going to be more since the electric is more per BTU.

All my friends that switched to coal have electric heat in their homes!

They got sick of the $500/month electric bills.

You see the fancy hat bands on the hats those ??? Amish??? are wearing. None of the many Amish around here would dare to wear them. Maybe Mennonite, not Amish! Anyhow, after reading the add--- OK, I'm going to get at least 2.

It puts out no more heat than the heater you buy on sale for 12 Dollars.
Or you can visit your local salvation army, and for 3 to 10 Dollars have a better bargain.
If you need that fake flame look , get a screen saver, they are free !
