For my birthday my dad bought me a tank of propane  So now iv got some propane, which is nice cause im out of coal :( but, the coal yard is open on till 1pm monday and if I can get my POS truck to start and run i'll have coal. I burned up all my matches on the stupid wire gizmo in a fruitless effort to light the dam pilot flame every time I got the lighted matchs in the burn chamber the draft would blow it out. I have about a cord of wood I can burn so I don't have to have the furnace but I don't like getting up in the night to feed the fire.

Does anyone have any tricks to light the pilot?

I usually just use matches but one of these lighters might work.

standing pilot with a thermocouple? may need a gas tech to clean out the plugged pilot orifice or replace the t-couple. a plugged pilot makes a weak flame, or may not jet enough gas to light, especially with a strong draft. check the draft diverter. may also have a cracked heat exchanger - this can cause weird draft problems and creates a carbon monoxide hazard!

Easy to replace a universal thermocouple, cheap too. I have used a propane torch many times, if you can reach in far enough.

The furnace have been unused for a couple of years the furnace had been shut down the whole time. I really doubt theres anything wrong with it I just cant get a flame in there to light the pilot every time I put a flame in the "door" it gets sucked out.
thanksfor the thoughts i'll try to get one of those blowtourch lighters

I got a $75 tank rental fee from my propain supplier last week because I didn't use any of the gas  I got a blowtorch lighter and got the pilot light lit and held the pilot button down for 1 minute then let off the button and it went out, I repeated this scenario multiple times with the same result till it pissed me off. So I thought bad thermocouple, I replaced the thermocouple and the F-ing flame still wont stay lit.

Any suggestions?
