Nat gas finally came down our road. Thought the plumbers might enjoy this picture. (I'm not a plumber and I liked it)
I have never seen the feed and return in the same loop before. Four zones, kitchen under floor heat, 1st floor heat, 2nd floor heat & upstairs bathroom heat. 200,000 BTU's yet a PVC exhaust, crazy. Makes hot water for the radiators but when you flip on the DHW to wash your hands it switches over for that, then switches back to the radiators when you're done. Sweet!

Yes, it's an uncommon piping method but one of multiple ways to pipe it. The manufacturers installation manual, including several piping options is here:

It's not clear what type of radiation you have, but if it's all baseboard I would have chosen a different piping based on the installation manual suggestions. The real test will come when in's all under loaded conditions. Meeting the desired set temperatures in each zone should be the performance criteria. More than one way to get a good outcome.

I have mostly cast iron radiators with some baseboard which are also cast iron. Just seems odd that a feed would be right next in line with a return.
