My oil tanks are almost empty and I am not really planning on using much if any oil this year but my question is can I add k1 kerosene or maybe off road diesel to my tanks just to get maybe 20 gallon or so in the tanks and avoid a minimum oil delivery? I do have some oil left in the tanks I would guess maybe 20 gallon or so. any info is appreciated.

I keep around 25 gal. of kero in mine & crank it on periodically. I just get it in 5 gal pails at the local sunoco station

If your tanks are in a warm area, you can use off road, but if congealing is a possibility, kero is a safer route, albeit more expensive. K-1 here is .45/gal more than off road. Your call.

If your furnace-boiler wasn't designed to burn kero, it will destroy it in short time. Kero burns hotter and faster than diesel and will melt the burn pot very quickly. Don't use kero unless the unit was designed for it or you will be sorry you did!!!! You may mix kero with oil to no more than 30% to keep down gelling, but any more and you will be asking for trouble!!!!

I was at HD today picking up paint and they are selling K-1 Kero in 2.5 gal jugs 2 to a box. The price per box (5 gal) $43.97, That's $ 8.79.4 a gal!!!!! You can dump disel fuel or kero in there it won't hurt a thing. I used 100% kero in a warm air furnace for 20+years and never had a problem. Kero has less BTU's than #2 fuel so you will use a little more for the same amount of heat. We used to run strait kero in our detroit desels year round. (it cut down on the smoke) They were screamers!
