Can you repair the boiler or are you well past that option?

dgipe454,
I have a woc55,easy to operate, shake, load, remove ash.The woc100 should be the same to operate as your wc55.I have only used the oil gun 1 1/2 days at first to make sure everything was working on the boiler, then switched to coal. When the oil gun runs it sounds like a jet plane, but I only turn it on once a month for 5 mins. just to make sure all is good.

:?: Is there any problems with your wc55 :?:

Just something to think about,if your woc100 has a problem you may not have a back up heat because 90% of the time there is a problem with controls and without controls the entire boiler is down.Having the seperate oil burner and your wc55 if one goes down, you will have the other one to contine heating. It maybe cheaper to get a new oil burner or a good used one as a back up heater. Any questions just ask. Dennis

My WC55 is in fine condition. It is 7 years old. The problem is it is to small. My oil boiler was 300000 and at best my WC55 is 180. I stuck my WC55 on Craigs list to see if anyone was interested. One person looked at it so far. I need a bigger unit but I'm afraid the WOC100 oil may not fire when needed because of dirt on the electric eye or something. Also how much wood is the WOC100 going to burn. Will the added amount of water help. What burn time a WOC100 has. :?: :?: :?:

I don't think my oil boiler is worth fixing.

dgipe454,
as for the oil gun getting dirty,on my woc55 the gun sits on the left side in the back of the boiler(seperate chamber),the opening for the oil flames/heat to enter the firebox is on the back right.I have not had any problems, although I don't use the oil gun.You will get some coal in the oil chamber from tossing the coal in the firebox, but not a problem. When I clean the boiler baffles and pipe(never shutting down) I vaccum the oil chamber out also.IMO you should not have a problem with the oil gun.The first day of every month I fire up the oil burner from 160 to 170 degrees(aquastat settings) just to make sure every thing is fine.

Wood burn times I have no clue,I only burn nut anthricite with 12 hrs. or more burn times. I'm only using 40% of my boiler right now,I have reduced the firebox to 50% of size to not overfire and dump water.

There maybe a AHS wc70 265,000 BTU comming up for sale this spring.

 This might be the time to consider a stoker boiler while tearing out your other boilers :?:

I'm not a expert, but the added water capacity should help the boiler and with the heat demand.
I'm very pleased with my multi fuel boiler, easy to shake down, load, empty ashes. I would think it should be the same as tending to your wc55,only larger. Any other questions just ask. Dennis

EDIT: where you located, fill out your avitar. If your local or want to look at my boiler your welcome

I live in Chambersburg, Where they make Alternate Heating boilers. My WC55 boiler is up for sale now. The oil boiler is rusted out and cracked. I may be able to fix it, but the setup I had before didn't really work as well as I wanted. I had the WC55 hooked up to the oil boiler. I had an aquastat that turned a circulator on when it got 200 degrees in the wood boiler and sent the hot water to the oil boiler. All the heat was plumbed out of the oil boiler partly due to the domestic coil being there. Of course when the wood fire died down, the oil kicked in. I think my problem was I was trying to heat up a oil boiler with a wood boiler that at the most made 180000, according to them. My oil boiler was 300000 BTU and the house needs that much. I'm looking at alternatives. I am thinking of the WOC100, but also lookin at all other possibilities. I found a oil boiler the other day on the internet that is 300000 BTU and only holds 9 gal. of water. It doesn't keep any water hot, just on demand. I could either circ like before to the oil boiler, or put electric 1 1/2 valves to select where the hot water comes from. If anybody has any ideas please let me know.

Thats alot of wood to feed with all the BTU's you need. Will you be using wood and coal, the coal will be much easier to control the boiler temps. Do you have a wood supply for all those BTU's needed.
With using wood it seems to have heat spikes when fire dies down then oil burner kicks on untill you load with wood again, and again, and again, its a visicous cycle.I have watched my freind do it with his boiler.

Not sure about 9 gals. of water for 300k btu's.

The woc100 will surely do what you need at 400k BTU's with some extra to spare.I have noticed that with all the amount of coal in the fire box,it seems to keep the boiler temps. 170*/180* without a problem.
The 5gal. DHW coil makes temendous amounts of hot water. If you need more hot water there is a 7 gal. coil avalible.

I have mine on the coal/wood only,I shut off the oil completly and you won't need oil at unless you go away for more than a day.I don't even know how to use the auto switch over,I believe I should learn before needing it.

AHS really built a soild multi fuel boiler  .Since I bought mine I been looking really close to all the other multi fuel boilers, and the others don't seem to burn coal very effectivly, but will burn wood with out a problem.

If you have any other questions or want any pics. just ask. Dennis
