Cost of A Cord of Wood

I paid $550 for a tri-axle load of logs this year. I was informed the price will go up next year which doesn't supprise me. Typical tri-axle load prices are $650 to $700 around this area now. Since I have been a long time customer, I get a break. I get approx. 22 face cords out of a load at 16" wide.

Cut and split wood is going for about $55.00 a face cord (16" width) right now.

I expect a shortage and prices to spike as soon as the weather turns cold. A lot of people are turning to wood this year due to oil and gas costs. Many people don't plan ahead and are going to be disapointed when they want wood. I ordered my logs last April and did not get them until September. Wood lot production is down due to lower demand for hardwood building materials.

Does anyone know the current going price for a cord of wood cut (approx 16"), split and delivered in the NEPA area?

I don't know about NEPA, but the rumor in southern CT is $300 or more this winter.

I have burned 10 cord a year, for past 10 years. Before that, I burned 6 cord a year for 18 years. Never had to pay a cent for the wood, but had to buy the chainsaws, fuel mix, splitters, and might want to throw the cost of a tractor or two, in there.

I see on the news they are suggesting...and thinking of making it law but don't know how to enforce it... do not bring your own firewood on vacation with you. There's an issue with bring in nasty bugs, simple as that. Appearantly that's one way beetles get to a new location. They are in the tree when it's cut, get taken to a new place and then set up shop destroying native trees. So, keep it in mind when you're headed out camping this year. Leave your wood at home, you'll find some where ever you go.

Its the Emerald ash borer that is causing all of the destruction. And the reason for the laws.

That reminds me of the Stink Bug problem we are having over the past couple of years. Also from Asia.

Worcester here in central MA has the Asian Longhorned Beetle infestation. They just cut down almost every tree in certain parts of the city -- you should see the locals cry! Cities aren't supposed to have trees anyway!

Last time I checked (which was when fuel was over $4/gallon), a cord of wood was going close to $350/cord around here -- all set with that!
