Just bought this new old stock stack damper for my oil boiler. I want to keep the heat from going up the flue while my coal boiler pumps hot water to it 24/7 Just wanted to know if anyone uses or is familiar with these dampers.

these came out about 25or 30 years ago when the gov mandated higher eff standards so the boiler mfgs came up with these dampers on gas & oil units to cover the law till they could come up with real technology to acheive the more strigent standards they do work,, jim

I think these have been superseded on newer burners by an air shutter on the burner itself, which serves the same function. Check whether your burner has the shutter before you go to the trouble of installing the damper.

They do work well! I put one of the GVD dampers on http://www.fieldcontrols.com/gas-vent-damper?page_id=93 with the help of two relays and it works great. ;) Three or four month after I did it, Field Control came out with the OVD damper http://www.fieldcontrols.com/oil-vent-damper?page_id=93  this will make installing alot easier.

I got it on ebay for 40 or 50 bucks. After I bought I found out they are selling them again with added safety switch. Mine works great, I installed it after the baro. so the heat in the basement would not be sucked up the chimney.
