Glenwood door knobs

Been working on tearing down a Glenwood oak and managed to remove one of the door knobs without destroying it - stove was very rusted.

Just wondering if anyone has considered taking one to a tool and die shop for duplication? I know some have had solid ones cast with varying levels of success.

I think im going to give it a shot. Let me know if any of you have tried.

Not sure what yours looks like, but sometimes they seem to be pretty ornate with some scrolling carved into it. I guess a good machinist could turn one down, but if it's cast with decorations embedded into it, not sure how that would be duplicated. Interesting question tho. I'm guessing Sears and Roebuck doesn't have any on the shelf?

Should be able to cast it via mold made from original.

It takes skill is all. I don't have such skills.

Going to take one to a couple shops tomorrow and see what they say.

I don't remember ever seeing one like that on a GW Oak. I have two GW Modern Oak 118 and the door handles are the same as the ones on the GW #6. How does it latch the door closed ?

That looks like the pull type knob, not the latch type. I have the same on my GW range's water reservoir lid.

There are tabs cast into door and from that latch together.

OK that's what confused me. That looks more like a GW Wood Parlor, not an Oak.

That is a wood parlor but the older oaks have a similar set up. Id take a pic but all the parts are at the blaster.

OK. I'd like to see pix of it when you get it back together.

Will do and will keep posted on the knob situation. The oak 40 had 4 total i think. One i scavenged to finish the wood parlor. One i was able to save and will be taking to some places to see about duplication. And the other two, were destroyed trying to remove them.

That wood parlor knob would be a very good pattern for lost wax casting in bronze. A process that gets incredible detail and not overly expensive when you have multiple parts needed. I use a place in Maine. If you're interested the guy can give you an idea of cost based on emailed pictures and dimensions. The mold made to cast the wax patterns becomes yours to have more cast if you wish.

Drive an hour southeast of you. Ask for price in iron and silica bronze. They can cast an 18 firepot cheaper than the price of a box ramset refactory before shipping price.

Then.

Drop them off at platers across the river.

Think they could do them hollow like the originals?
