Think they could do them hollow like the originals?
Might be able to, but it would add to the cost. Likely more than it's worth to have them hollow. The originals were several stamped pieces and assembled back when labor was cheap.

For those interested, took the glenwood pull knob to a machine shop today. The guy said he could get really really close to the original hollow design. Downside is that for a run of 500, the cost would be $30 a piece. Higher than expected but understand it.

Sunny boy suggested lost wax casting and i have reached out to his recommendation. Will let ya know how i make out.

Update: Talked to Sunny Boys recommendation at length. Recommend forgetting trying to make them hollow as the originals were as it is cost prohibitive.

However, he did tell me he could absolutely make an exact duplicate of the original down to the detail. He also said it would include a stainless threaded rod cast into the base. Essentially eliminating the need to drill and tap.

The cost would be about half of the above mentioned price and no minimum quantities. I will be sending the best one i have for the pattern. I dont want to make anything, only hoping to fill a need if one exist.

If I didn't already have a good handle for my range water reservoir, I'd be getting one.

Anyone with one of the early Glenwood parlor stoves, such as the oak, pearl, solar, etc. should consider it.

FYI, unlike even fine sand castings, lost wax castings come out so smooth that they are ready to be plated. So, there is that additional labor cost savings of not having to smooth them.

Phil, have you checked my PM about a possible parts stove ?

I'm sure you saw some samples displayed on their website. That is the finish the castings make. It's amazing at how small and fine the details are that lost wax castings can copy. The basic process is thousands of years old, but modern methods make the process even better. That is why the pattern part you send him has to be as smooth as what you want the castings to be.

I'm still getting some antique parts to that stage to send him.

I've been asked by others that want parts recast, who is the lost wax casting business I recommended to Phil. It is Hildebran Designs in Brownfield Maine.
