Hand Fed Coal Stove: Estate Glory No 18

Post by Michigander » Thu. Feb. 10, 2022 9:32 pm

Hi Guys,

I took a quick look for a how-to thread for installing/replacing mica windows. I wasn't able to find anything within the antique stove forum. I'm hoping that maybe I'm silly and missed t somewhere. If so, please set me straight.

I'm thinking about adding some mica windows to my Estate Glory stove. I'm thinking of putting a window on the left and right kinda shaped like a Maltese cross cutout. What I'm unsure about is if I can just fabricate front and rear brackets and sandwich the mica to the door. I'm thinking of a sheet of mica on the outside and another on the inside of the door.

Can I just sandwich the mica, or should I use a ceramic gasket or a fiberglass gasket? Is there another possibility? I really want to see the fire.

Much Thanks!
