I have a new shop project this winter, a heart oak no. 4. Made by P & B mfg co Nashville Tenn. it’s broke down now and being sandblasted. Done some welding last night. All is going well but I was wondering if anybody has knowledge of what year or decade this cylinder stove would be? I’m guessing the 1920’s

Pictures might help. Many stoves copied the style of the competition, which changed with time.

Some manufactures use the casting pattern date as part of the part numbers. Are there any numbers on the castings - maybe inside the parts ? And is so, do any part of the numbers repeat ? Those would likely be the casting dates.

In 1941 they came in 5 sizes.

In 1949 they only made 3 sizes #2,3,4.

Not found in any earlier catalogs.

Here is 1941 catalog photo.

This catalog picture is it to a t. Even the description in the fine print describes it and will greatly help my building it back because when I got the heater it was in pieces. I’ve never seen it as a whole. Thanks a bunch on this info. And yes there are numbers on the inside of all casting parts. I’ll look into those closer as I continue to prep parts to paint.

The crack in firepot needs fixed before using. It will leak air causing you trouble controlling the stove temperature.

Drill both ends of crack with small drill bit.
Fill crack with stove cement/chaulk.

Also should line firepot with refactory, either the hammer in kind or pour in kind.

I had my neighbor weld the firepot solid. There are no air gaps now, it’s solid. I agree on lining the firepot. I’ve seen pictures of finished products but I have no experience doing it myself. I don’t know enough about it or where to buy material for that job. It’s something that I’m interested in and any advice would be appreciated.
