I'm looking at a #10 globe (mica) stove that looks complete except for the magazine. Can these be hand fired IE shake down and add coal via shovel ? Price looks like it would be ok but I need to look at it closer

Yes this heater can be filled by shoveling coal thru doors. Running this stove on the hotter side, there won't be much coal left to ignite a fresh batch on a 12hr cycle.
Can make a magazine out of regular black stove pipe to extend burn time some.
That style grate shakes left and right. A quarter turn counterclockwise is dump the fire or clinkers.
The bad news now.
Been for sale for a couple years.
Whomever painted it forgot to paint the inside also. Probably didn't take it apart to reseal all the seams. A bum in a cheap suit.
Needs a complete gone over.
Way over priced.
There is a nicer one in central New York state. Price is pretty high. Another in Philadelphia much, much better price. All will need redone for safe usage.
I have bunch this style.

I figured it would need a complete overhaul with all seams being resealed. What do you think a good offer would be? I was thinking around $500

$500.00 to me would be top price.

Maybe $100 if your lucky. Me personally, let someone else buy that one.
Ones that are complete. That just need spit and wax maybe $300 max.
The one in Philadelphia is $100 and complete. Can't see firepot or grates in pic.
Been for sale for weeks.
N.Y. one is $600. Complete. Offer them $300, don't forget to add your fuel and tolls and time in the mix.
What state you in?

The 2 on the left in first pic are #10's. Same as what you are looking at. Next is a #12 then #14 and another #12.
#10's are about 13 inch round at globe and 15 ish at the base. 40 inch tall. You not gonna find much smaller if space is an issue.

I meant the base burner is to big. A #10 will fit my hearth just fine. I'm running a Godin 3721a right now but the Gidin's don't shake down well due to their design. Like running coal over wood once the cold hits but the Godin let's me burn wood on chilly fall nights (that is until I'm finished restoring my Pittston range. Then I can burn wood in it and coal in a #10)

I'm afraid you might be cold. There's a difference between a 10 inch globe, 10 inch square and a 10 inch classic baseburner. A 10 inch baseburner with full revertible flue is much more of a heat machine than a direct draft so called baseburner.
