Hello,
Good Morning and Thanks for all the great info here! I have two main questions that I’m sure you have the answer too. The backstory. We bought an old house up North that had a small Dixie Foundry #A12 coal stove in it. I bought some farrier coal to try it out and after about four tries I was able to get the coal to light, then four tries later I got it to last till the morning. There is no coal in Las Vegas so I am looking forward to getting a pallet of bagged coal from Utah and using that.
This house was built in 1912, there is a house next door that has been abandoned since the 60’s that has that larger Golden Dawn by Wehrl coal stove in it. I am trying to get into running order to burn wood in it. The triple grate is hopelessly rusted up. I was able to weld the cracked stove pipe exit together ( ask me if you are want info on that first time welding castiron debacle). See the circled rusted up piece? What is that? It was found lying in the bottom of the stove. There is a loose bolt & nut at the top of the stove front with nothing attached. Was this a “smoke shelf / draft device” that was up there or part of the shaker system? The curve of the piece doesn’t really match up tight with any profile of the stove. Another question is that there is a draft slide on the back of the chimney exit – what would this be for? Thanks for any answers .

That is a reamer of some kind. A tapered one on the handle and a straight flute for the big end.

That tool looks like a tool to service hot water radiator bleed valves. Tap and die to restore threads and extractor for broken valves.

Thanks,

So where does the smoke flap go ? On front near the top as there is a bolt there with nothing connected to it. Im thinking the smoke flap may have some kind of adjustable bracket. I'll make another slider part for the back of the chimney of plate metal. I assume that is some kind of fine tuning adjustment device. Thanks for your help on that & the radiator tool. Can anyone use that tool as I don't have radiators.

Thanks - Vince
