Moore's 403b firepot and grate info
Hello,
I found some old threads on 403b and read through them but I'm looking for information on the grate/firepot. It appears that there are bearing balls under the grate to help it slide left to right. Does anyone have pictures of how this looks? Also, for all you folks that restore things like this do you put new gaskets when assembling the firepot.
My 403b was in my fathers garage for many years. It is good shape. I disassembled every part, sandblasted it, repainted and other parts are sent out for re-nickel plating.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I do not own a Moore's stove, but I have a grate that shakes by rotating back and forth, it is supported by rollers. I have never seen how a Moore's grate is supported so I don't know if it is similar. I can dig it out and get a photo if you want.rjsop1 wrote: ↑Sat. Nov. 14, 2020 7:45 amHello,

Thanks for your input. Here is the picture of the bottom of the fire box. The grate sits on these three cup like supports I have circled. I'm assuming balls from ball bearings would rest in these slots. Two per slot. The grate is a two part grate. A circular one that I'm assuming would slide left to right and one that slides in and out. That's the way it worked when I disassembled so I'm assuming that's the way it was originally.

My Clarion 115 has bearings under grate.
A little different than yours. My bearings are in a support. Then that sits in pockets like yours.

Thank you.
I read somewhere that Stainless 316 ball would be Ok for high heat or am I mistaken. I think something between 3/4 and 1 inch would work nicely in these pockets.
I just had to share this next photo. Got parts back from plating yesterday... Can't wait to get this back together and light'er up.

The ball bearing is more of an old wagon wheel. 11/2 tall with 1/2 inch hub on both ends.
Need to stack 4 or 5, 1 1/2 flat washers together. Stood up and bolted together to get the correct height. Somehow!

Perhaps I failed to mention that I do have both parts of the grate. Here it is setting inside the base of the pot. I know that grate has to rest on some thing in those "pockets" from the above picture. Stainless steel balls? or some kind of special wheel?

Better zoom, regular ball bearings might work in them pockets.
Might not roll very good, when filled with ash or small clinkers.

Flip the grate upside down and post a picture of it.

So I was able to get some cast iron bearing balls and some stainless ones. Probably going to use the cast. The grate slides really nice on this. Not sure if this what was originally there but it should work just fine.

It's alive...It's alive. Finally got it all back together. This was in my grandfather's house.
My wife and I were in stove restoration competition.. Just had to post the one she finished too.
Thank you to all those that helped answer my questions. If there are any books or other papers out there about the Moore's or the wife's copper clad please let me know.
Thanks.
