Baseburners & Antiques: McClary No. 114 base burner w/ oven

Hey everyone!

I do a video series about photography and science on DPReview TV. In the latest episode, the opening sequence features my McClary mica baseburner in operation. Thought some of you might like to see it! Give the video a thumbs up if you like it. :)

Interesting video and an awesome stove. Probably the best video of blue ladies I've seen.

Thanks for the compliments! I should do a long recording on them to replace the Christmas "Yule Log" recordings for those interesting in something a little different. :)

Hah, I didn't think of that! Might try it when I fire her up again - currently off as we're in an exotic November heat wave here in Central Ontario.

When I was a kid, they had "Yule logs" made out of rolled and pressed paper that burned with different colors. Likely metal powders mixed in with the processed paper. Was fun to watch, like a mini slow-motion fireworks display.

Yes, but to kids sitting in front of a fireplace at Christmas time,...it's mesmerizing magic ! ;)

And relief to their parents just to get a break for however long the log burned.

My daughter is only four and I don't let her play with the coal stove yet. I'm sure in time she'll be squirting metals in there for entertainment... and I'll be right there doing the same.
