If the grates, brick and grate retainers are still in good shape, then that blower model Hitzer should work extremely well for you. I have similar square footage and the bigger stove and wish it was the smaller model. Reason being, I could run it hotter and cook of it. Currently with my larger fire box, and along with my stove also having a blower, I have to keep the stoves temperature down further on an average daily basis...which means it’s too cool to cook off of should my electric go out.

Ash pan door handle is about $8-$12 from Hitzer. Grates are about $45-$65 each without looking, and the grate retainer is about $64-$95. Brick retainer is about $45 I think. Don’t think that stove has a baffle, but does have a hopper. No clue on cost. Ash pan is around $65...at least that’s what I paid for mine in a bigger stove. Baffle’s are about $45. Shaker handles are relatively cheap.

Check into the Harmon price for parts. That Harmon is certainly cheap enough. I’d love to have a Harmon, but then I’d miss having the thermostat to run the stove on the Hitzer.

I am becoming a Hitzer fan! Parts are cheap, they are relatively close to me, and the Lehman family are nice as can be and their customer service is second to none...even when you buy a used stove. It’s still their product...and that is exactly how they look at it. If I had 5 thumbs, that’s what they’d get from me.

I’ve also asked the seller of the Hitzer for more pictures, they said they should have them to me later today. The seller of the #8 sent me some more photos. Any idea how much money it would take to get the #8 operational? $400? $600?

When Hoytman responded to my post he included the costs of all the parts I might need for the the Hitzer which was very helpful and much appreciated.

For the #8 people mentioned what would need to be done but no ballparks on how much those parts might cost or materials for repairing. That’s why I inquired for an estimate so I could figure out how much I would have to invest in replacement parts and materials, I have the ability to take things apart and refurbish but not being familiar with it I needed additional information, I wasn’t disagreeing with their information, I was just trying to find out what I would need to know to estimate the cost. I enjoy the challenge of restoring something and I’m a capable person, I just wanted more information from those with experience.

That being said I’m over extended this summer repairing relatives homes (various plumbing/electrical/carpentry) taking a certification course and getting ready for my upcoming school semester (I need to go over calculus I to prep for calculus II). I also repair vacuum tube amplifiers for fun and I have three sitting on the work bench that need to be restored. So, after learning how much work is needed for the #8 I’m going to pass, I just won’t have the time for it.

Wise decision T. H, posted just about all the parts to TOTALLY rebuild the 30-95--pix wil tell the true story. Good luck on that schoolin stuff.

Parts for the #8 about 600ish. Plus shipping and handling. Will have to ask very nicely for one of them parts or wait months or years.

Plus paint,polish,bolts,sand blasting.

Plus welding the damaged parts upon tear down.

Plus nickel plating if you want show room quality BIG BUCKS.

Plus buying one or two more #8's for parts not found.

Forgot TIME for restoration, priceless.

M, as pretty & functional that they are, & would look great in this 200yr old farmhouse I'll stick with the old HITZER.

I will admit though...with all those weak points they were talking about...hmm...they got me me gun shy of a #6 or #8 now. I sort of had my heart set in one too. Just was having to wait.

I know there were stoves that copied the Glenwood but are there any that rival it or are better?

stove hospital has a household 6 (like new) for $3800 now.
I will say this however... If I was really in the market for one of these gems (and they are the pinnacle of function & art), I would call Walter Deetz first and ask if he would sell you one that would work for you. His are bar none... the best in the world.

The seller with the Hitzer sent these additional pictures. I asked if he had pictures of the shaker grates and his response was “I do not. It is in good shape. Only used one season. Just needs to be cleaned.” What do you guys think?

T, tell him ya want pix of the grates & hopper if it's got one --those he sent are useless--I got a feeling he only burnt wood in it. OK I--see the hopper--yep, he burnt wood in her regular!! idiot!!! Gotta see the grates!!!! Ya might want to pass on this one. There's stoves out there T, ya just gotta look & now that you've posted, ya probably got 10 other guys lookin!!! LOL

NWIH, if there is any reality involved in the "one season" claim it was run hard and put up wet and given the amount of hopper erosion i'm not believing it.

that stove was misused and not cleaning it out for responsible pictures is being used to hide just how poor it really is.
