Baseburners & Antiques: Montgomery Ward model 69-KMD-1579

Post by JaneEleven » Sat. Apr. 25, 2020 6:00 pm

Howdy,
I'm a new member and am enjoying your forum and reading about everyone's finds and knowledge. Reminds me of a group my husband belonged to involving Gibson Tractors.
Anyway, I've posted a photo of a stove I bought about 13 years ago. My only knowledge of it was that it was cool looking and I wanted to display it in our home.
Now I'm ready to get rid of it and am looking for information. I've already learned from reading your posts that it was manufactured for Montgomery Ward for both wood and coal. I just today found the numbers 68-KMD-1579 on the inside of both doors for fuel and ash. I don't find any other identifiers but can not get behind it because I can't move it.
It appears to be pretty complete: handle to lift two round and two square pieces on top, side extension piece, grease? cup, handle that rotates the fuel grate, ash pan, oven rack, working side vent, a lever that slides left to right at the back of the stove top and some pieces I am not sure of that I will send a photo of.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Janell

Similar stove here, a while back.

Montgomery Ward's cook stove

Value from other places between 300 to 1000 depending on condition and location. High price is a total restoration, but will take time to get price.

The porcelain and the chrome accents made me think it might be a Crawford Stove, or at least, Crawford-made for Montgomery Ward???

My Crawford is a gas stove, but looks a lot like that stove in some ways.

It is not a high quality range. Mostly just sheet metal. Hardly any cast iron.

Thank you mtnbgy. From the weight of this thing I never would have guessed sheet metal.

Thank you NoSmoke. My Montgomery Ward information was from this site a while back. When I started research yesterday morning, all I had was the 9 digit number on the inside of those two doors. Put those in a search engine and up popped the Monkey Ward info.
Thank you everyone for the help. I guess I'll stick $600 on it and go from there.
Really do appreciate this cool forum and all the love for old stoves.

Try pm to sunnyboy.
Sunny Boy knows very little about sheet metal ranges. Other than many early ones are layers of sheet metal sandwiching asbestos. And they can be difficult to restore.

JaneEleven be flexible on price if you are in the Midwest or Rockies. Be real, real flexible if you are in the Northeast.
