I've seen pictures of antique ranges on wood floors with no protection for the wood other than each stove foot is sitting in a glass "caster", sometimes called "coaster". The range Melissa grew up with is one example (pictured below).

They are bigger than glass furniture casters and not fully round. The large round furniture type will not fit some antique range oblong feet, like my Glenwood.

These are more like horse hoof shaped, with the top retaining lip only sticking up around three sides, like a horse shoe. They measure 3-3/4 inch long by 3-1/2 wide and 1 inch total thickness.

Unfortunately, when Melissa's Father sold the range the glass casters went with it.

I want to raise the working height of our range a bit more, but not have ugly bricks under the feet.

I found three more of the range type in a box of furniture coasters out in her Father's shop - one of which is badly chipped on the underside. Can't find any to make a set of four. I've been checking eBay for a few years and none of this type have turned up. Anyone know of a source ?

Paul

Most people would not know what are so wont list them correctly on ebay. I think these are what you are looking for??? https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Vintage-Large-Glass-Fu ... ondition=4

I found them by searching for glass furniture coasters, and checked the used box. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=gl ... ondition=4

I've got a few of those, Fred, but range feet are not like the threaded wood spires sticking up out of old telephone pole cross bars.

I used to be a "pole cat" in my Signal Corp days back before bucket trucks became the popular way to string wires and cable.

No problem. I never even knew they used glass under stoves. Ebay used to be easier to search when they only had keyword search but since they started using the item specifics instead of the title alone, and have all the sponsored listings, and try to sell you what they think your looking for instead of what you really need, it can be a PITA to find anything there. Gotta use the extra check boxes to narrow things down. the price option button, used/new, etc. Newer car parts by make and model are impossible anymore as everyone lies on what things fit. Amazon isnt any better.

I had never seen that shape glass casters before either, but I have many old pix of ranges on wooden kitchen floors with glass casters and wondered how they got the oblong feet of Glenwoods to fit the round ones that were all I was able to find. The way the casters sit you can't see if they are round or not.

Then I found those one's from Melissa's Dad, then it was made clear to me ...... pun intended. :D

Finally arrived. Here's pix of the Glenwood's Cinderella glass slippers. :D

As you can see it's as if they were made to fit the Glenwood range feet. The feet fit perfectly within the horseshoe shaped raised edge.

Had some 1/4 rubber discs that were leftover from an antique driveshaft u-joint project that were 3/1/2 inch diameter, same as the caster width. Used them to cushion the casters on the uneven surface of the slates. That raised it one inch, which means a bit less leaning over. The cooktop was 5 inches lower than modern stoves.

And when the kitchen lights are on the glass looks like more nickel plating.
