Hello, I just joined the forum as I was directed to this site from someone on the Firewood Hoarders Club. I have a special to me Fisher XL wood stove that has a crack in the cast door. I'd like it repaired and was told someone named "Wilson" has experience in this type of work, that's all I know.

...that someone was me. Good group of folks over there, for sure, but this is the place I call home. Some super-duper-dyna-whoppin' die-hard coal burners and antique stove folks here. Absolutely the best help and support from members of this forum...it's almost unbelievable.
Welcome to the forum! Be patient, it’s a little slow here this time of year.
There are several folks here who restore old stoves, several that weld on them too to fix cracks and such. I’m sure someone will be along shortly.
I cannot find any info on the square cast iron welding rods I’d read about here. Perhaps someone else can find it, or perhaps Wilson will come along to help.
I know at least one of the stove restorers here recommends using that type of rod on cast iron...because I read about it on this forum somewhere. I was almost certain it was Wilson...maybe it was one of the others.

Found one example of what I was talking about. Old fashion square cast-iron welding rod...scroll down to the 5th post...

...somewhere on this forum there's further discussion about this type of welding rod. That information just may be contained in the rest of that thread...I haven't taken the time to read it.
For sure, JubileeJerry has knowledge of it...and perhaps Wilson does as well..."Wilsons Woodstoves" is his username. Perhaps you could pm either of them, or both.
I told you...this place, and these guys have knowledge of stove restoration that is not privy to the common man, it just isn't.

Great! Glad we could be of service to you. It’s always nice to be able to help someone.
You never know... we was able to drag a firewood hoarder to a coal forum, if we try hard enough we may just convert him. Lol!!! Wilson May help us in that regard...lol!

Will do, I forgot to pick up the door at the new shop when I was there Wednesday. I have stuff everywhere.
