Hand Fed Coal Stove: Dickson Oak 117

Post by JAK433 » Sat. Jul. 06, 2019 9:44 am

We have a Dickson Oak 117 coal stove in excellent and working condition. I am trying to understand the value as we have someone who wishes to buy it but I have no idea what a fair price would be.

Thank you!

If you post some pictures you'll get a better evaluation. Be sure to include pictures of the grates etc. It's a little slow this time of the year so be patient.

I have photos in my iPhone but not sure how to insert them into this app. I tried to copy and paste but that does not work and I cannot find an insert tool. Can you help?

Thank you.

It works and was used by my parents for many years. Just trying to understand the value as we are selling the “homestead” and we have someone wanting to purchase the stove.

Agreed.

But, a 17 inch fire pot is toward the large end of the common size ranges. As such, with it in nice condition, I'd lean more toward asking $500.00.

I agree with Sunny Boy, with a 17" pot I would be looking to get $500 in that condition.

Does anyone know what the vent on the top is used for? Also is the pipe in the middle used as a coal hopper or just for loading?

You can connect a pipe on that top vent to direct some of the heat to a register on the floor above the stove.

That is known as a double heater option.

The tube is called a coal magazine . Once your fire is established you fill the magazine from the top. It preheats the coal and gives you a longer burn time between shake downs.

Thanks Paulie. I thought the pipe may be used for that but I was sure if it was just for loading wood. We got about 6-7 hours last time with a full bed of coal and the damper open. That will come in handy. I only get to tinker with it about once or twice a year so its a learning curve every time.
